Greetings from Calico Blackie!
I’ve read and seen a lot concerning the Occupy Movement this past year and thought I’d heard it all.
For instance: “Dirty hippies with no clear goals” has been a recurring theme which, no matter how many times it’s been disproved, still rears it’s ugly head much to the amusement of the “powers that be” and their followers.
The “Occupy” faction usually counters by calling the misinformed or misguided masses “sleeping sheep” in the vain hope that somehow the middle and working classes will miraculously have a great awakening and turn on the Wall Street banksters.
It ain’t gonna happen, and we activists are the ones who had better wake up to that fact.
The other day, I read a news article concerning the protests in Anaheim and most of the comments were of the usual “dirty hippie” variety, but there was one which really struck me. It was a comment I’ve been seeing a lot in the media these days.
In part, it said:
“The Occupiers are nothing but tools playing into the hands of the far-right in this country. All the Occupy Movement will accomplish is that the government will pass new and stricter laws regarding our freedom and the Occupiers are giving the 1% an excuse to do so. And, they will pass these laws with the blessing of the general populace who will be told that the laws are necessary for public safety.”
Meanwhile on twitter, some of the Occupy livestreamers were embroiled in an argument which boiled down to “who is the better, daring and more radical livestreamer?”
Imagine that? Talk about self-defeating. ANY coverage from the streamers is better than the crap we get fed from the mainstream media.
WHO IS BETTER DOESN’T MEAN A GODDAMNED THING!
It’s enough to make this country boy throw up his hands and say:
“Screw ‘em all. At my age, I’ll be dead before it completely goes to hell anyway.”
BUT THAT WOULD BE TOO EASY. THAT’S THE COWARDS WAY OUT.
Nope, I prefer to die fighting, rather than sitting back watching us all march off a cliff while arguing about who is a bigger tool or a better livestreamer.
THERE’S JUST TOO MUCH AT STAKE HERE TO GIVE UP NOW.
And to those who say we’re just being tools by giving the far right an opportunity to crush dissent and to pass new and more oppressive laws, I say:
OK. What’s your alternative? Vote for bought-off candidates in rigged elections? Fight a rigged and immoral system “from the inside”?
Fight from within. Yeah, right. I’m hearing that more and more these days.
When any institution, whether it be a corporation or a government, or any other type of institution embarks on an evil course, human beings have the moral obligation to disassociate themselves from it and not to assist that program in any way.
You can smugly say “I’m staying at my job because I need the work and it gives me the opportunity to fight from the inside” but ultimately your argument is utterly immoral and defenseless.
To choose to work from within to moderate a corrupt and exploitative/evil system rather than to confront it, means that you are still furthering the object of the corrupt and exploitative system.
YOU SAYING THAT YOU’RE WORKING WITHIN THE SYSTEM AS A MEANS OF FIGHTING IT IS JUST A LIE YOU TELL YOURSELF TO SALVE YOUR CONSCIENCE WITHOUT HAVING TO ADMIT YOU’RE A TOOL.
If you took courage and publicly stated your opinions or grievances and stood up for them, what would happen? You would be laughed at, or you would lose your job.
Thus, by continuing to do basically nothing, you contribute to the creation of a society which kills criticism/protest and stifles free opinion.
You create a system of yes-men who are afraid.
You create a system of unquestioning obedience to Big Brother.
YOU BECOME THE TOOL. YOU ARE THE YES-MAN. YOU ARE GUILTY.
YOU are the boot stamping on a human face, forever
