ENOUGH IS ENOUGH?

Another weekend down and it’s time to get started on another week.

Tomorrow marks the 148th anniversary of the surrender of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia by General Lee to Union General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House.

If they’re even aware of this fact, most people fail to realize that it wasn’t really the end of a “civil” war. It was actually the end of the American Revolutionary War.

You see….

Most revolutions do not end cleanly.

There are always factions among the revolutionaries who will quarrel with each other over who will ultimately rule the roost.

Thousands, if not millions more die in the ensuing struggle.

It just took America longer to get to fighting with each other.

One “side” had finally had “enough” of what they thought of as being pushed around by the other “side”.

Never mind that one system favored actual slavery while the other side favored another form of slavery cloaked in the mantle of “freedom”.

Never mind that once again, the poor man fought the rich man’s war.

Never mind that the American Civil War never really ended in 1865 and that it just descended into a Cold War where, even today, we still fight amongst ourselves.

Yet, at least the slaves were freed and that’s a good thing that came out of the shooting war.

So…….

If and when we’ve finally had “enough” in this modern age……

What will our next revolution look like? Will we form coalitions to attack our current government and if successful, will we then fight another Civil War?

I think not. The time for violent revolution is past.

A new revolution would just get ruthlessly crushed unless the revolutionaries were able to secure help from a strong outside source.

Our “freedom” is always for sale to the highest bidder

Then what?

We’ll have replaced one form of government with whatever form of government the “helpers” want us to have, and nothing will really change.

The Banksters would still be in control.

So, when will we decide “enough is enough” and what can we do to keep the maggot banksters from returning to feed on our new society?

What can we do to prevent any country that would help a 2nd American Revolution from surreptitiously installing their “approved” new form of government?

When will we have enough of this crap?

Those are two questions we need to answer before we blindly strike out into the unknown.

As long as we allow the media to keep us fighting a “cold war” amongst ourselves, we will NEVER succeed in our ultimate goal of securing equal rights for every individual.

WE NEED TO STOP BELIEVING WHAT THE MEDIA TELLS US TO BELIEVE!

All the media is doing is keeping us in a state of perpetual “Cold Civil War” with each other and here’s a good example of this:

Why is this so hard to understand? Some people need help. Why be greedy?

When President Clinton signed “welfare reform” into law in 1996, he promised to end welfare as we know it. Now, some new reporting suggests we’ve created a new kind of welfare — only most Americans aren’t aware of it. 

The number of people who depend on checks from Social Security’s disability programs has soared in recent years, according to NPR’s series ‘Unfit for work: the Startling Rise of Disability in America’. The reports, which began over the weekend and continue this week, raise the question: How disabled are the recipients, really? As you might imagine, they have touched a nerve.

After six months of investigation, NPR reporter Chana Joffee-Walt concluded that Social Security’s disability programs have become “a de facto welfare program for people without a lot of education or job skills.” In the past three decades, she reports, the number of Americans who are on disability has skyrocketed:

Yes, there are some people who will “game the system” but most of the people on disability and welfare in this country really need it.

“Those goddam moochers are stealing my tax money. We should drug test and physically examine them all and jail those that are scamming.”

Great idea.

Let’s humiliate millions of less-fortunate Americans just so that we can all get big hard-ons knowing we caught a few scammers while being able to somehow feel superior to a whole huge group of poor human beings in this country.

Always looking for a sign, an indicator of where our society is heading

Here’s my experiment….

I will believe we’ve finally decided “enough is enough” when I look at the hit counter for this page and see that the words:

American Revolution, Occupy Wall Street, Media Lies, Protest, The Constitution, Civil War, Disability, Welfare, Poverty, and HUMAN RIGHTS are getting searched for more than just these few upcoming stories in today’s column.

Until then, I’ll believe we’re still content to be that frog on the stove in the pan of water that is very slowly going to poach to death.

Anyway…..

Hot for Teacher? I’ll bet this has been going on for centuries, but only now has the media decided to report on it. WHY?

A former Carson High School teacher accused of sexual conduct with a former student waived her preliminary hearing in justice court Thursday morning. Jennifer Dalton, 35, will be arraigned in district court at 9 a.m. April 2.

Assistant high school principal held in student sex case in Hemet

Do you know how old a woman this age looked to me when I was 15? YUCK!

A 45-year-old assistant high school principal in Hemet was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of sexual battery and other crimes involving three boys who attend the school.

The three boys are students at the school, but none of the alleged acts occurred on campus, police said in a statement.

She was also arrested on suspicion of oral copulation, abnormal sexual interest in children and sending inappropriate or harmful matter via an electronic device.

Speaking to reporters at the opening of Tracy Anderson’s flagship studio in Los Angeles, Paltrow recalled one incident in particular, when she was trying on bathing suits with a pal and received a rather unusual compliment about her figure.

“I said, ‘You know, this isn’t so bad for 40, right?’” Paltrow mused of her butt. “And [my friend] goes, ‘It’s not so bad for a 22-year-old stripper!’”

More people in America are aware of the results of last night’s Academy of Country Music Awards than are aware of the precarious state our society and their very lives and incomes are in.

I must admit I was surprised by this email and the fact that The Huffington Post staff would be so blatantly in favor of more government control over “We, the People”.

After giving it some thought, this was my reply to the editors over at HuffPo:

Hello,

I’m afraid this probably isn’t what you were looking for.

Twice in my life, guns have saved me. Once in self defense against burglars and once in defense of my cattle against a pack of wild dogs. I am 57 years old and by the time you and the State have dismantled the Constitution and condemned us to an Orwellian nightmare where it is thought that only the State should be allowed to own firearms and have freedom of speech, I’ll be dead.

Don’t you understand this?

So, do what you will.

It is sad that we’ve become a nation so easily swayed by the media and their corporate masters on Wall Street.

It’s sad that we’ve become a nation that’s more afraid of it’s own citizens than we are of our rights being taken away one by one.

It’s sad that we think government CONTROL is the norm now, and the way it should be.

Shouldn’t we be more worried about drone control, Gitmo, The Military Industrial Complex, The Prison Industrial Complex and the continuing loss of our rights than we are about gun control being imposed on the law abiding citizens of our country?

Now, they’re trying to “backdoor” us by gutting the 2nd Amendment and using that as a precedent to take away what little we have left of our civil liberties.

They know damn well that criminals and gangs will not surrender their guns and that any gun control laws enacted will only affect law-abiding citizens.

They know damn well that any extra “fees” imposed on the sale of permits, licenses, ammunition, and firearms will only be a thinly veiled tax on the citizenry.

They know damn well it won’t make us any safer.

Broke and ashamed: Many won’t take handouts despite need

“See kids? Asking for help is BAD!”

Ashyle Horton had volunteered in the past for the program that runs the University of Arkansas campus food pantry, but showing up as a client was an entirely different experience.

“I was very fearful and nervous,” said Horton, 22. “It felt so weird going to a food pantry to get help.”

The graduating senior says she desperately needed the pasta, rice and other staples on the food bank shelves, but she worried that others might judge her, that they would think she ought to be able to get by on her own.

“I never thought that I would be struggling as much as I have this year,” said Horton, whose already-stretched income dropped abruptly when her hours were cut at the disability services agency where she works.

Suddenly, she found herself among the 50 million people in the U.S. who live in food-insecure households each year, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Pushing past the stigma of need was a hurdle for Horton — as it is for many who find themselves in that situation, says Angela Oxford, director for the Fayetteville school’s Center for Community Engagement.

But, don’t worry about poverty or having enough to eat. Don’t worry about the destruction of our planet in the name of profit. THE FAGGOTS ARE COMING AND THEY’RE GOING TO TAKE AWAY OUR GUNZ!

“There is a stigma in that people just want to be able to take care of themselves,” Oxford said. “People don’t want to have to get assistance.”

Across the U.S., safety-net programs aimed at reaching the nearly 1 in 7 Americans living in poverty struggle to reach those in need. Food stamp enrollment climbed to record levels following the recent recession, with nearly 48 million participants in December 2012. 

Still, 1 in 4 people who are eligible for food stamps don’t sign up, on average, the USDA says. Participation drops sharply in certain subgroups, as well. Only 34 percent of seniors and 60 percent of working poor households who could receive food stamps actually do, the USDA says.

That’s largely because of the perceived shame of taking a hand-out, researchers say.

“Stigma seems to be a big barrier to participation,” said Colleen Flaherty Manchester, an assistant professor of management at the University of Minnesota who studies the issue. “We find it to be quite substantial.”

Don’t worry. Gabby Giffords will protect us with HER GUN and feed us!

In fact, psychological barriers appear to be three times greater than time costs — the effort and hassle it takes to enroll — in determining whether people seek benefits, Manchester said.

“I think it has to do with feelings of reduced self-efficacy, reduced self-esteem, psychological pressure from going against the social norm,” she said.

For Ashyle Horton, her need for the food pantry may end with graduation this spring. She has applied for City Year, a national service program, and she hopes to pursue a master’s degree after that. But her months of accepting pasta and rice from the pantry have given her more empathy for others in that situation, she says.

“I don’t like to tell people when I’m in need,” she said. “I like to help other people.”

WHY WE SHOULD GIVE A DAMN

Have we been wrong all these years?

I’ve been hearing “Who gives a damn?” more often lately when I discuss current events and politics with young people I know.

The last time I mentioned “Occupy” in a conversation, I was told: “Who cares? People are sick of Occupy. It’s old news.”

There’s too many distractions going on around us for us to focus on the issues. Instead, it’s as if we’re becoming a nation of ADHD addled idiots and it seems as if we like it that way.

Immediate gratification and a short attention span is the norm these days.

This photo of Maggie Trudeau (First Lady of Canada) caused a small scandal in the late 60s. Could you imagine the media circus if the media got a photo such as this of Michelle Obama today?

We get fed a steady diet of bullshit news that doesn’t matter, yet it’s dressed up by the media as if it’s important.

We’re allowing ourselves to be stupefied.

Most of us spend much of our time being so distracted by the meaningless shit in life that we forget to live our own life as it happens and we miss it.

Anyway, that’s the end of the sermon for today.

Not-so-golden years: Over 75, burdened by debt

The golden years are supposed to be a time when you can live off the wealth you’ve accumulated over a lifetime, not feel like you have to take on more debt to make ends meet.

But new research shows that Americans ages 75 and over appear to have grown more burdened by debt in recent years, and experts say a likely culprit is medical expenses.

What a surprise! Don’t people realize that today’s system is designed to bleed a person as dry as possible before they’re kicked to the curb?

It’s not just medical expenses.

It’s also the upward spiraling high cost of living that keeps going skyward every year you’re alive.

What seemed to be a good pension or retirement fund 30 years ago doesn’t even amount to a poverty-level allowance these days.

A new analysis of government data, released earlier this month by the Employee Benefit Research Institute, found that between 2007 and 2010 people who are 75 and older were more likely to have debt, and their average debt levels increased significantly.

All I can say is if I’m lucky enough to make it to 75 and if my wife goes before I do, the credit companies had better just watch out.

By the time I’m reading this book, I won’t care about my credit rating OR my debt load!

I just wonder how many of those debt ridden over 75′s out there still think they live in the greatest country in the world and dismissed the Occupiers as “dirty hippies“ when Zuccotti Park was in fashion?

I wonder how many of them will still blame whoever happens to be the President when they hit their decrepitude, instead of blaming a SYSTEM THAT IS DESIGNED TO WRING EVERY LAST DROP OF BLOOD OUT OF YOU in the name of maximum profit?

I wonder how many of them will say: “I thought I’d adequately prepared for my retirement years, but found out I wasn’t expecting the cost of EVERYTHING to go up so high” when some smug asshole tells them:

This is how I feel when some asshole starts talking about “poor decisions in life”!

“You made poor decisions in life and you should’ve saved more and prepared more“?

HOW CAN YOU SAVE WHEN IT TAKES EVERY STINKING DIME YOU MAKE JUST TO KEEP YOUR HEAD ABOVE WATER?

I’m not talking about “the little extras” and “luxuries”.  I’m talking about SURVIVAL. Rent, food, clothes, transportation, etc.

But, oh well…..

Why should we give a damn?

Because, someday we’ll all be that old and if things keep going the way they are going, there will be no more “dirty hippies” left to care enough to help you out.

JPMorgan Chase to cut up to 4,000 jobs in 2013

JPMorgan Chase & Co plans to cut 3,000 to 4,000 jobs in its consumer bank in 2013, representing about 1.5 percent of the company’s overall workforce, as the bank tries to improve the profitability of its branches.

Here’s those bank employees before the layoffs were announced welcoming Jamie Dimon when he walked in to the room

The cuts will come mainly through attrition, spokeswoman Kristin Lemkau said. The bank’s branches have 63,500 employees, representing about a quarter of JPMorgan Chase’s total employees.

JPMorgan is one of the few big U.S. banks that is still adding branches to its network, but…

to boost profit it plans to scale back the tellers it has on hand for routine transactions…..

and to add some salespeople for products and services like wealth management that can boost revenue.

The net effect will be to reduce staff per branch by 20 percent through 2015, the company’s head of consumer banking, Ryan McInerney, said in a presentation to investors.

In JPMorgan Chase’s mortgage business, the company reiterated its previously announced plans to shed 13,000 to 15,000 jobs by 2014.

The bank is hoping to focus on selling more to wealthy depositors.

South Africa study finds donkey meat sold as beef

Truth in advertising? It’s a thing of the past. Deception is what’s now in vogue

A study published by the local Stellenbosch University found that 99 of 139 samples contained species not declared in the product label.

It found soya and gluten were not labelled in 28% of products tested, undeclared pork in 37% and chicken in 23%

This was mostly in sausages, burger patties and deli meats, it said.

The disclosure comes at a time of a growing scandal in Europe about horsemeat being sold as beef.

On Monday, Swedish company Ikea withdrew meatballs from sale in 14 European countries after tests in the Czech Republic found traces of horsemeat in a batch made in Sweden.

Leading supermarkets in the UK, including Tesco and Sainsbury, have also withdrawn beef products from shelves after they were found to contain horsemeat.

6 Leaking Tanks Are Hanford Nuke Site’s Latest Woe

“IT’S PERFECTLY SAFE. THERE IS NO CAUSE FOR ALARM”

Federal and state officials say six underground tanks holding a brew of radioactive and toxic waste are leaking at the country’s most contaminated nuclear site in south-central Washington, raising concerns about delays for emptying the aging tanks.

The leaking materials at Hanford Nuclear Reservation pose no immediate risk to public safety or the environment because it would take perhaps years for the chemicals to reach groundwater, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee said Friday.

But the news has renewed discussion over delays for emptying the tanks, which were installed decades ago and are long past their intended 20-year life span.

“None of these tanks would be acceptable for use today. They are all beyond their design life.”

“None of them should be in service,” said Tom Carpenter of Hanford Challenge, a Hanford watchdog group.

“And yet, they’re holding two-thirds of the nation’s high-level nuclear waste.”

A BETTER WHORE!

It’s not “belief.” It’s how we interpret the news and accept or reject it

There sure has been a lot going on since I last updated this page.

Some guy in Rome quit his job. A Carnival Cruise ship (ain’t we got fun?) lost power in the Gulf of Mexico and the “Love Boat” turned into “The Stench Boat”. 

The corporate middle manager gave his “State of the Union” speech to Congress last night.

An ex-cop got killed at Big Bear.

And a myriad of other events have been taking place as this big old world turns.

Most of the stories have been flying under the radar, or are given a few paragraphs in the local papers and then are quickly forgotten.

The “average joe” doesn’t have time to think deeply about the news. No time to analyze. No time to question.

And besides, even if you do….

And besides……..What can WE do about it?

What can you do about it?

Where and when did we become a nation that prefers to let others do our thinking for us?

Where and when did we become a nation of apathetic people, resigned to our individual fates?

Where and when did we stop valuing the ability to use logic to analyze and solve problems?

Where and when did we stop wanting to think?

Got a problem? Take a pill! Watch TV and forget what’s really going on in the world. Let the news pundits tell you what to think!

And lately we haven’t wanted to see very much. Is it too grim to contemplate?

Don’t overanalize the news.

Here’s a news story that almost no-one knows about, but is sure to please ol’ Cletus, sitting in front of his television in Odessa, Texas………..

Texas gov. tries to woo business away from Calif.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — Texas Governor Rick Perry is in the Bay Area, hunting for California business. He’s expected to try to woo away companies to his own state with a pitch and an ad campaign.

Perry is promising better business conditions in Texas. And because of recent California tax hikes, some experts think he might find a few takers.

In a portion of the radio ad that’s airing in California, the Texas governor says, “Building a business is tough, but I hear building a business in California is next to impossible. And I have a message California businesses — come check out Texas.” The ad is aimed at attracting California’s billion dollar companies to Texas.

Come to TEXAS!

This is not the governor’s first visit to the Golden State. He touts his state where there is no state income tax, labor costs are cheaper, and business regulations more lax.

Governor Perry will be talking to high tech, bio tech and film industry leaders during his three day trip.

His visit starts in San Francisco, then on to Silicon Valley and Los Angeles.

I’m sure the rest of the “Cletuses” out there in the rest of the country are laughing their asses off at the thought of Texas and California trying to screw each other.

But, let’s look at this story a little closer.

What is Rick Perry REALLY saying and doing?

Hmmmmm….

“He touts his state where there is no state income tax, labor costs are cheaper, and business regulations more lax.”

He’s really saying:

“Hey, Goober…Did you hear? Rick Perry is bringing us ALL jobs!”

“The citizens of Texas would make much better WHORES for big business than those Californians.

We LOVE poverty-level wages in Texas.

We LOVE a tax system that fucks the little guy while billion dollar corporations get tax breaks.

We LOVE unregulated business and pollution.

WE WANT TO BE JUST LIKE CHINA! All for business, and fuck you, Cletus! You’ll be a slave!”

What he’s REALLY doing is trying to lure big and predatory businesses to Texas by promising them BIGGER PROFITS. That’s akin to a mayor looking at a neighboring town and going to the next town trying to lure the meanest pimps to his area, thinking that the increased cash flow will somehow help his community.

The “average joe” won’t see a dime.

Here’s your future, Texas. And you can thank Rick Perry and his cronies for it

What he’s REALLY doing is trying to bring MORE huge corporations to Texas that will put you and the smaller businesses out on the street.

All you “valued employees” who made “good decisions in life” and have worked for the same company for 20 years will be laid off and forced to work for poverty level wages for “the mean pimp.”

Either that, or you’ll eventually be forced to move to another state where the governor hasn’t gotten around to pimping you off yet.

Why will you have to move? Because your job will be taken by “Pedro the fence jumper” because he’ll work for less than you. He’s used to poverty and you’re not.

Well, you can always sell your organs to some rich dude that needs them more than you do

But, whom will you blame?

Not Rick Perry for setting you up to be screwed.

Not the big corporation for bringing poverty and illegals to your neighborhood.

Hell no!

You’ll blame “Pedro the fence jumper” whose only real crime is trying to feed his family and improve his lot in life.

 Why?

Because the “news” tells you it’s Pedro’s fault! Not your worthless governor. Not the company that hires Pedro.

Heck no.

Did you ever think of that down there in Dallas? Get your Vaseline now, because Rick Perry is raping you and you’re happy he’s doing it.

Hey, Texas…Rick Perry has a job for each and every one of you and he’s in California right now trying to attract the Pimps and Johns to YOUR TOWN!

THE “LUNATIC FRINGE” IN AMERICA

Can you see the ultimate goal of the FBI and Wall Street?

I see the FBI caught another “nutcase” militia leader through the use of an informant who infiltrated the group. This makes me wonder….

Has the FBI ever caught anyone through the use of good old-fashioned detective work? Or, are they only able to gain a result through the use of stool-pigeons and slimey entrapment methods? 

How many times have we seen it splashed across the headlines that they have captured a bad guy by first going out and finding someone who was mentally unstable and telling him that they could get them guns and/or explosives? Then, they set the lunatics up with a fake bomb and arrest them.

Sounds like a GREAT idea!

Why don’t they just identify the fact the perp is mentally unstable and get the lunatic to a mental hospital for treatment?

Oh yeah. That wouldn’t make the front page.

Our FBI would have loved Marinus van der Lubbe (Google the name).

Anyway…..

At what point does it sound like a good idea to go around blowing shit up?

How full of impotent rage does someone have to be to react with enthusiasm when an undercover FBI agent suggests to an individual that they can get them all the bombs and weapons they need to start blasting public buildings?

Law enforcement in this country has proven time and again that they are almost powerless at preventing crime and protecting the population.

This isn’t prevented by entrapping a mentally ill person

They’re great at taking the report after the fact, or digging your corpse out of a smoking ruin, or beating down unarmed and peaceful protesters for their masters.

But actual protection for “the average joe”? 

Forget it.

All they really can do is act as a deterrent to crime.

Remember, human beings are unpredictable, and cops basically are stuck with a task akin to playing a game of “Whack a Mole” where all they can do is rush to the scene where a crime is either in progress, or has already been committed.

That’s why some people take it upon themselves to accept responsibility for their own protection.

So, you say the cops are only 5 minutes away? Look at your watch for 5 minutes and think of all that would happen in those 5 minutes while the cops are on their way. Things happen fast, don’t they?

Personally, I would much rather have to explain to the cops why I shot a violent rapist who broke into my house and attacked my wife, than to have the police show up after the crime to fill out the report after my wife was raped and I was killed.

Also, has anyone ever wondered why, if a lunatic goes around threatening a public official/figure, it qualifies the lunatic to be found guilty of making “terrorist threats” and they get automatic prison time?

BUT, if common “Jane Doe” is threatened by an ex-husband, ex-boyfriend or a stalker, all they can do is get a restraining order AND have the police tell the poor woman that “There is nothing we can do until a crime is committed”?

And, it isn’t just men that are guilty

WTF PEOPLE?

Make a “terrorist threat”? That’s a jailin’!  Tell your ex-girlfriend that “If I can’t have you, nobody will” and that you’re going to “get” her and her new boyfriend? Well, that’s ok!

It doesn’t make sense.

Oh, I know the issue is a cloudy one and I have met “bunny boilers” and “vindictive bitches” who would certainly go to the police and tell them a big fat lie about their ex just to satisfy some sick urge.

HOWEVER, you would think the cops could at least check it out to hear both sides of the story.

But, what do I know?

Moving right along…..

This is the story that got me thinking along the “militia” and “domestic terrorist” lines this morning:

Fairbanks militia leader sentenced to 26 years in prison, apologizes

He looks like such a GOOD boy!

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The leader of a self-described militia group was sentenced Tuesday to serve nearly 26 years in prison following his conviction on nine felonies, including conspiring to murder public officials.

U.S. District Judge Robert Bryan sentenced Schaeffer Cox, 28, during a two-hour hearing at U.S. District Court in Anchorage.

Before he was sentenced, Cox broke down several times, grabbing tissues and fighting back tears. “I put myself here, with my own words,” he said before pausing. “And I feel horrible about that.”

Cox came to the attention of the FBI in late 2009 after speeches in Montana that claimed the Fairbanks militia had 3,500 members and was armed with mines and other military weapons. But the group only had about a dozen members and, as Bryan noted, never trained for military duty.

As the investigation unfolded over more than a year, the FBI eventually used an informant to infiltrate the group. He recorded more than 100 hours of conversations.

Our own government even puts out training manuals you can buy on the subject

Cox once told a state judge some militia members would sooner murder her than appear before her, and told an Alaska State Trooper the militia had officers outgunned.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven Skrocki said that Cox eventually crossed the line separating offhand comments about killing someone to formulation of plans to do so.

Prosecutors said the group hatched a “2-for-1″ plan — killing two law enforcement officials for every militia member killed — an idea another convicted member, Coleman Barney, acknowledged at his trial was discussed twice but never put into play. Group members also amassed silencers and grenades.

A psychological exam ordered by Cox’s new attorney, Peter Camiel of Seattle, after he was convicted showed Cox suffered from several paranoid disorders.

The government sought a sentence of 35 years, while Camiel was seeking a much shorter sentence and to allow Cox’s mental condition to be treated with drugs and counseling.

At the end of the trial in June, Bryan said he wrote down observations about Cox, which included: paranoia, grandiosity, narcissism, egocentricity and pathological lying.

He said the paranoia diagnosis from the defense’s psychological exam may supply some reasons for some of Cox’s actions, “but it does not provide excuses.”

Well armed and equipped militia? How good do you think they would do against an air strike?

What are these people thinking that form these militia groups? 

Are they just forming a mutual self-protection group in case it ever all goes to hell and the government can’t/won’t keep order anymore?

Or, do they honestly believe that they would be able to successfully go toe to toe with the United States Armed Forces?

The whole “Red Dawn” dream some people have of militarily fighting the government is pretty absurd.  For the most part, the population of this nation isn’t anywhere near fired up or even capable of being fired up enough.

Here’s a young dude gazing at “the promised land” during a speech by Sarah Palin. Do you think he gives a damn about the direction our country is headed in, or is his mind fixated on Sarah’s cooter?

The numbers of “resistance” types would be small and they would be characterized as terrorists.

We have no problems sending in troops to shoot local terrorists. As long as elections still happen, TVs still work and internet porn is available, there will not be any revolution.

Nobody will rise up, save small cells (like today) and they will be squished out of existence rapidly.

Frankly, the general population would care less about these small cells and when they have popped up no one seemed to care when the government wiped them out. 

The radical militia members seem to forget they are a tiny minority and people in American society are too preoccupied with other things to care for long. 

A few days of news coverage and then back to Honey Boo Boo and the next installment of Celebrity Tits and Ass.

So……..

It seems as if Schaeffer Cox is just some semi-deranged guy who was set up by the FBI so that they could show us what a great job they’re doing keeping us “safe” from the lunatic fringe.

Why do we always see others as belonging to the lunatic fringe. If you’re a liberal, the Tea Party are the loonies. If you’re a conservative, it’s “them dirty hippie protesters” that are the loonies. And the media can portray either side as the “fringe”

But, don’t be fooled. Cox was also set up so that the media could continue to paint anyone with what could be perceived as anti-government views as being a member of that same lunatic fringe.

Our government doesn’t like any dissent that might gain popular support and threaten the profits of their masters on Wall Street.

Just look at what happened when Occupy Wall Street started to gain support.

The militia groups and protest movements can talk change and revolution all they want. I truly won’t believe “it’s on” until there is a massive Tianamen Square-style protest in this country and the riot cops join the people they have sworn to “protect and serve” to help them in the fight against their corporate overseers.

Will the National Guard refuse to follow orders “next time”?

Then, the National Guard will get called out, and if the National Guard refuses to kill their fellow citizens….

Then “it’s on”.

Until then, all we can do is gather and spread information, unless that’s also made illegal.

Occupy Wall Street showed us that non-violent protest without permission from the government is already illegal.

How much longer and how much further will we go before “it’s on”?

How much longer will the American People allow themselves to be pushed in a poverty stricken corner?

I don’t have the answer to that one.

How long will someone submit to beatings until, one night after he’s asleep, they go get the butcher knife?

What we have is one hell of an abusive relationship with our government.

They screw us and beat us if we object to their corruption and greed.

They shove us into bleak economic corners.

They allow their corporate cronies to fleece us and poison us with genetically modified food.

And yet we still hear:

“But they LOVE us.”

And we’re “lunatics” for trying to improve our country.

A PLEA FOR COMPROMISE

Nope. I don’t want an assault rifle, but Linda Hamilton sure looks good with one!

Before we begin today, allow me to say that I’ve never owned an assault rifle. I just don’t feel the need for one.

The American People have probably already lost the 2nd Amendment fight.

The sad part is the people have done it to themselves.

These are some of the very same people who will cry about our country rapidly becoming more of a police state than it already is. 

These are the same people who will wring their hands and bleat about American jobs and workers conditions overseas and then send me a photo of their kids from their iPhones while shopping at Wal-Mart.

Much more powerful than an assault rifle and much less discriminating too

These are the same people who will recoil in horror when I mention that I target shoot, and yet they’ll be all right with our tax dollars buying drones and missiles to indiscriminately inflict “collateral damage” on innocent civilians in another country.

But, don’t get me wrong.

I’m typing this column on a computer that was probably made with slave labor. I don’t like it, but that’s the world we live in.

We live in a world where maximum profit is put before humanity. A world of individual greed.

I would much rather be typing this column on a computer made by free workers in a world where making a profit is ok, but where and when making MAXIMUM profit is put ahead of human decency it is not ok.

Anyway…..

This is not an “assault” rifle they’re using

Here’s what I foresee happening in our immediate future: 

First, there will be an assault weapon ban with a very broad definition of what constitutes an assault weapon.

Then there will be a ban on any weapon with a detachable magazine.

Then, there will be a ban on any and all semi-automatic firearms.

But, that still will not satisfy the gun control people.

Why?

Because some nutcase will shoot up a public place with a revolver and a pump action shotgun.

This is also not an “assault rifle” but it will blow your head clean off

The news media will continue to headline every case in which a gun is used to commit a crime and we, the people, will call for even stricter measures.

All handguns and most rifles and shotguns will then be made illegal.

The only guns we own that will remain legal will be single shot firearms and maybe black powder weapons, and even these will have to be licensed and heavily taxed, insured & regulated, making it so that only people with money will be able to legally own a firearm.

The insurance companies will have a field day with us.

Then the gloves will come off and the whips will come out and the people will say “How did this happen?” We will then have a full-on Orwellian police state…… 

Safe workers in a safe society

But we’ll be safer!

The argument: “If you’re not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about” will become a government and media mantra and we, the people will hear and repeat it until we believe it too.

Look at what happened when we Occupied Wall Street. Our Constitutional rights were repeatedly violated, and most people approved of it.

I sincerely believe that the vast majority of law abiding gun owners in this country would be ok with some sort of gun control if there was a guarantee that it would stop there.

But would it?

What would the “guarantee” be? A Constitutional Amendment? We’ve already seen where that gets us.

If you think she gives a damn about you, you’re crazy

I’ve had conversations with gun control advocates where I asked them what a good compromise would be.

In almost every case, the conversation started with…..

“Well first, we should eliminate all assault weapons” and after awhile the conversation finally ended up with their wild eyes flashing and hands waving saying “BAN THEM ALL”!

That’s not compromise.

They give the argument that if there wasn’t a gun in the house, a “crime of passion” wouldn’t happen.

If I mention OJ Simpson or other murders where the victims were not killed with a gun, my facts are dismissed.

Never mind that most of the gun violence in this country is caused by members of criminal gangs. Never mind that many of the shootings are done as a result of our failed “war on drugs.”

Never mind that we are a violent and misguided society.

The gun control crowd will continue to point to countries such as England where gun violence is low.

WE ARE NOT ENGLAND.

We can’t put our hands together with gang members and sing Cumbaya and be certain that we will not be harmed.

THEY will not turn in their guns.

Where will that leave us?

We will be left with a police state and we will have to rely on the police to protect us.

The only way they will be able to do this is if there are a squad of cops in every neighborhood patrolling around asking “papers please” whenever they come across anyone they deem to be “suspicious.”

The only way they will be able to “protect” us is if ALL “suspicious” people are locked up and there are surveillance cameras on every corner. 

Then the gun control people will have what they wanted.

“Gee…I feel safer!”

And, we will not be any safer.

IT’S NOT GUN CONTROL. IT’S PEOPLE CONTROL.

Why doesn’t the mainstream media splash it across their front pages every time someone is fatally stabbed or beaten to death?

They will, when we are disarmed and that will lead to even more control.

And……

The “nutcases” will just turn to more inventive and potentially MUCH more lethal means to attention whore and get media attention.

Maybe it’s true that if guns weren’t so readily available, these past shootings could have been prevented, but I doubt it.

The type of person who commits a mass shooting usually ends up shooting themselves and they would have no problem going out with an even bigger BANG.

As I’ve said before….

Might as well change the inscription to: ABANDON HOPE ALL YE WHO ENTER HERE

We’re always all right with SOMEONE ELSE giving up their rights as long as we think it doesn’t have an effect on our lives.

After all, we’ll be safer.

And beautiful mermaids will sing and unicorns will run around with rainbows shooting out of their asses too.

I’ve heard the argument: “I don’t need a gun to protect my family like all you gun idiots think you do.” 

Those are the people who have never been faced with a very nasty situation before in their lives where they’ve lost.

It ain’t the guns, people.

It’s a sick society and we’ve got some hard self-examination ahead of us. And many of us won’t like what we see.

That being said…..

Why do we have laws? Aren’t they put on the books to keep us from inflicting pain and misery on each other? 

Aren’t they put on the books to “keep us in line” and to protect the innocent and gullible?

How and why is this legal?

If that is the case, then why is it perfectly legal for Wall Street to profit from and cause our misery?

Why is it perfectly legal for Wall Street to fleece the gullible?

Why is it perfectly legal for the banksters to buy off our elected officials?

There are two sets of laws in this country. One we have to obey which “keeps us in line” and the other set is for the 1%, which is the law of the jungle.

They’re the predators and we’re the helpless prey.

Contrary to popular belief…..

The 2nd Amendment was included in the Constitution NOT so that we can fight off foreign invaders.

It was put in place so that we would have a means by which to defend ourselves if OUR OWN GOVERNMENT ever tried to oppress it’s own people and turn our nation into a police state.

Maybe instead of gun control, we should have our Sociologists, Historians and Anthropologists begin to examine our society as it was in the 1950s and 1960s before mass murder became trendy to look for differences and similarities between the way it was “in the good old days” as opposed to the way things are now…..

The “good old days”???

Keeping in mind that those “good old days” weren’t so good for large segments of the population.

Sociologists, Historians and Anthropologists…..

You know, those social scientist people who didn’t “major in something useful.”

After all…

An engineer can design one hell of an efficient scaffold to hang people with, but the social scientist can look at the entire problem and make suggestions as to how we can make the scaffold unnecessary.

Maybe by examining the past, we can have hope for the future.

Then again, maybe not.

Maybe it’s too late and our knee jerk reactions will win the day.

My “Plea for compromise” will go unheeded and we’ll be doomed to an Orwellian existence, instead of a life.

Don’t let it happen. Don’t let “them” talk you into giving up freedom. Listen to a plea for compromise

Maybe after complete and total gun controls are put into place, the next time we protest and try to make society better for us all, we’ll all be either shot down by the police, or hustled off to concentration camps to slave away in chains for the prison industrial complex.

And, we won’t be able to do a god-damned thing about it.

Don’t let it happen.

What about the real cliff edge they’re leading us to?

Thank God someone has the balls to give us real news and real information.

The fiscal cliff. It’s what is dominating the news these days.

Both “sides” fighting over it instead of working together to not just avoid it, but to ensure we never have to be faced with it again.

But, we’re unimportant to them.

THEY DON’T CARE.

Both gangs of pigs are playing the usual blame game, while we’re “sandwiched” between them, getting screwed.

AND, THEY DON’T CARE!

It’s as if both political parties are aboard a sinking ship trying to tell us how each party would be best for us, the whole while ignoring our outcrys of:

WHY CAN’T YOU IDIOTS GET TOGETHER TO PATCH THE LEAK AND IF YOU WON’T, WHERE ARE THE LIFEBOATS?

You better believe they’re eating caviar and drinking champagne up on Capitol Hill while we’re doing this. AND THEY DON’T CARE

Well, guess what? There ain’t no lifeboats and they only give a damn about their own sorry asses. They’ve been paid-off to do their master’s bidding. Not yours. Not mine.

They’ve been bought to do the bidding of Wall Street banksters that REALLY run this country.

So, what can we do?

We need to build our own life boats. Forget about what the government is going to do and RELY ON YOURSELF AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. The “government” will do whatever Wall Street tells them to do and not give a damn about what we say or want.

Screw them. FORGET THEM. They’re not our government anymore. All we can do is live our lives as best as we can and let them go on about their merry way…….

UNTIL WE’RE UNITED AND STRONG ENOUGH TO FIRE THEM ALL.

It’s not that Uncle Sam is oblivious. UNCLE SAM DOESN’T CARE. He’s not the one that has to live with it. WE DO

So, I ask…..

What would YOU rather have? A costly series of meaningless foreign wars and needless death?

Or a redirection of those funds into a massive and meaningful infrastructure repair program in our country which would employ millions and put the money where it would help us the most?

Heck, we’re a free Republic. Let’s put it to the vote!

Oh yeah. That would work. Do you even think that “The Will of the People” would mean a goddamned thing to our government?

Even if we could vote on it (which we never will be able to), they would just get some judge somewhere to overturn our decision.

Coming soon to YOUR neighborhood! Do you think the people in Washington, DC care about this? NO. They’re too busy playing political jerk-off with each other to give a damn about you

We don’t get to vote on the things that really matter anymore. We get to vote on and for illusions.

If something is REALLY important, we’ll never see it on the ballot.

Why?

Because “they” make the rules and tell us we have to follow them.

So, I’ll say it again…..

Forget about what the government is going to do and RELY ON YOURSELF AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.

How about these people in the following story? Do you think they would rather have troops in Afghanistan, or would they rather have safe natural gas lines?

Whatever they want, you can rest assured that the folks up on Capitol Hill don’t give a damn what they want.

Gas explosion causes massive fire in Sissonville

Here’s a photo from the scene of the explosion. Nice, eh?

A gas line explosion this afternoon in Sissonville caused a massive fire that burned several buildings, melted part of Interstate 77 and sent huge flames into the sky.

Authorities were worried about the possibility of another explosion, and were evacuating nearby residents.

“In all my years of experience, this is the biggest fire I’ve ever seen,” said Kanawha County Fire Coordinator C.W. Sigman.

Sigman said a 20-inch gas transmission line ruptured, sending a massive sheet of flames shooting skyward.

Sigman said several homes were burned, but emergency officials were still trying to determine if there were any injuries or fatalities. Emergency crews rescued several people who sought shelter behind the burning homes, he said.

I hear a lot of talk from people in this country pertaining as to why citizens of the 3rd World seem to hate us.

What the people in the 3rd World don’t seem to realize is that we’ve, for the most part, become slaves to various “complexes.”

Most people in Western Society are slaves to these Complexes and have been for some time now.

What “Complexes” do you ask?

There’s always room for more!

The people of the 3rd world are not slaves to the “Big Three.” They see themselves as powerless victims being exploited for our comfort.

“I suffer through eternity with these iPods and other slave-labor produced gadgets chained to me. The people who made these things wore the chains, now I wear them forever.”

Every once in awhile, a news story appears on the computer screen that is a horrific reminder of how evil human beings can be to one another.

Our first reaction is usually: “How can people be like that?”

The story is hard to read, but it does show how the human spirit can triumph over evil.

The story is thought-provoking and can’t be read superficially.

It HAS TO BE FULLY EXAMINED AND ANALYZED.

From horror to hope: Boy’s miracle recovery from brutal attack

Can you imagine?

“You cannot die! You cannot die!” the father mumbles to the bloodied, mutilated boy who lies unconscious on his lap.

His hands press down on the boy’s slashed-open stomach to keep the insides from spilling out. He sobs convulsively.

“Listen to me! You cannot die!” he repeats his morbid mantra. “If for nothing else, to exact justice.”

The two are on a rickshaw headed to a hospital in Dhaka. It’s not the most effective way to transport a dying child through the cramped, congested streets of the Bangladeshi capital. But it’s all that the impoverished father can afford.

Hours earlier, four men had surrounded the 7-year-old boy, bound his hands and feet and cracked open his head with a brick. They held him down and took a switchblade to his throat. They sliced his chest and belly in an upside down cross.

We can’t just ignore stories such as this one and hope it will all go away

And in a final brutal act, they hacked him sideways, chopping off his penis and his right testicle.

The attack took place in late 2010, just a few days before the Muslim festival of Eid. Three area kids lured Okkhoy out of his home with the promise of a popsicle.

“They kept insisting that I go down to this one area,” Okkhoy recounts. “I kept saying, ‘Why?’”

His suspicions aroused, Okkhoy says he set off for home when a group of neighborhood men grabbed him and pulled him into an alley.

“They tied me up and told me they’d force me to beg,” he says. “I told them, ‘I know each and every one of you. And I’m going to tell my father.’”

That’s when one of the men grabbed a brick and struck him across the head, he says.

He fell to the ground and, mercifully, lost consciousness. Because what followed was even worse — an act that authorities dubbed “pure evil.”

“This little child who has his whole future ahead of him, they all but killed him,” says Mohammed Sohail, a commander with Bangladesh’s elite anti-crime unit, the Rapid Action Battalion. “They thought he was gone. Dead.”

The attackers left Okkhoy by the side of a warehouse, intending to come back later and dump him in the river.

His mother, who had gone looking for her missing child, found him.

“What kind of shithole country is this where things like this happen?”

and:

“What kind of fucked-up culture do they have there?”

There was a slew of comments about this story on another website, and here are a few of those comments:

“From what I can tell Asian culture never developed a concept of the inherent worth of an individual. In China an individual is only worth their ability to serve the purposes of their “superiors”. If they refuse or are unable to do so they aren’t considered human and have no more moral standing than any nuisance animal.”

“In Japan an individual is worth their abilities and expertise. In the subcontinental cultures people are very sensitive to any perceived “slight” and there isn’t any idea of “proportional response”.

But, let’s think about it……..

But, we’re CIVILIZED!

How about EVERY BIG CITY IN AMERICA where children (and some adults) are forced into prostitution?

Everywhere children are attacked and taken advantage of by pedos and are forced to make kiddie porn?

Everywhere gang members beat kids to death for  their shoes or jackets?

Everywhere self-righteous “good people” with “family values” refuse to allow legalized prostitution (such as the legal prostitutes at the Moonlight Ranch in Nevada) because it offends their sense of morality and yet makes street prostitution and the spread of STDs inevitable?

Ever wonder how many times the preacher has seen this?

This story was published to make us all think:

“Oh, those crazy Asians. Life is cheap there. Glad we live here.” 

There are sickos everywhere who would use you in any way possible to get a dime for themselves.

It’s called “the maximum profit mentality at any cost” here and it’s prevalent everywhere.

So, let’s save our self-righteous indignation.

If you’re not working for a solution by at least calling attention to the problems in our own backyard, then you’re part of the problem.

No, we don’t openly treat/maim our nation’s poor in such a manner. 

This is what Shell Oil has done to Nigeria. Do you care?

Instead we just treat other people’s poor that way – vis-a-vis buying Shell gasoline despite what they’ve been doing in Nigeria for a long while now, or buying iPhones despite knowing people are killing themselves over the conditions in the factory that makes it.

But our “own” poor? Naw, we simply ignore them, for the most part – we don’t cut off their appendages or blind them.

We have no problem buying goods made by slave labor in other countries. We have no problem buying products made by private prison industries in our country.

Why?

People are DYING so that you can send pictures like this to your friends on your shiny new phone

Because those gadgets are fun!

Never mind the blood that’s on them. Never mind the misery that went into getting that product into your home.

Never mind the sufferings of others.

“FUCK ‘EM. I GOT MINE!”

It’s a mentality that we’ve each got to admit to having and one we’ve each got to break.

It’s a mentality that dictates: “There are the exploited and there are the exploiters.” 

And:

“In this world, there are predators and there are prey, and it’s much better to be the predator.”

It’s the Wall Street mentality…

We’ve been taught “Greed is good” by cloaking greed with the words “ambition” and “winning”. AMBITION AND WINNING DO NOT HAVE TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH GREED

And it’s been drummed into our subconscious minds for generations.

IT’S GOT TO CHANGE BEFORE WE DESTROY OURSELVES WITH GREED.

We’ve got to break this chain of thought.

WE’RE ALL GUILTY. I’M GUILTY TOO.

But we can begin to change our way of thinking and doing. We can reject greed.

We can reject the Wal-Streets of the world.

My heart knows there is evil in the world, while my head tries to rationalize it away. Stories like this about maimed little kids make me tell my head to shut up, and go find someone, anyone, to help today.

Child prostitute arrested in America after being forced into prostitution by a gang of pimps. This could be your daughter. It doesn’t only happen “over there and far away”

It might not help much, but anything to stem the tide of evil is better than standing by waiting for the evil to roll this way.

That’s how we can begin to fight back.

Reject greed and help each other on an individual level.

THE COST OF WAR

Grad School was a long time ago for me. It was either use one of these at work, or use my Selectric at home

I was reading the news from Reno, Nevada this morning and was heartened to see that the University there had received a large grant.

I pay particular attention to any good things happening at that University because that is where I completed my graduate studies and also because my entire lifetime has been mostly spent living in three different States of the Union: Nevada, California and New Mexico.

Out of the three states, I’ve always preferred Nevada.

Anyway, the University will always have a spot in my heart because while there, I had some of my greatest trials and tribulations (not to mention a lot of fun up in Virginia City, when I got the chance).

So, what was this good news?

Our politicians and financiers throw around numbers that are so large that we can’t hardly begin to fathom them. To illustrate my point, here’s an article from 2011 regarding the cost of war in Afghanistan:

Afghan war costs $300 million a day: Pentagon

The withdrawal of American troops from Iraq will allow for a reduced US defense budget in 2012 but the war in Afghanistan still costs the United States close to 300 million dollars a day.

Under the Pentagon’s proposed budget, the cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will drop to $117.8 billion for fiscal year 2012, a reduction of 41.5 billion from the previous year.

As the US war effort winds down in Iraq, the budget sets aside $10.6 billion for “Operation New Dawn,” with the remaining 50,000 US troops there due to withdraw by the end of 2011.

Spending for the Afghan mission calls for $107.3 billion, down slightly from the last budget, which requested $113.5 billion.

300 million dollars a DAY. That’s enough money to be able to give 30 ten million dollar grants to hospitals and universities A DAY for medical research.

That’s enough money to fund 10,950 such grants A YEAR.

It should be noted that the 300 million dollars doesn’t include paying for our regular peacetime military deterrent force. We would still have a strong military.

What would you rather have? Our sons and daughters fighting and dying in foreign wars solely to make the rich cock-suckers even richer?

Lots of money to be made by the war profiteers. AND THEY DON’T CARE WHERE THE GOLD COMES FROM AS LONG AS THEY GET IT

Or would you rather see that money being spent on research for the good of humanity, with your sons and daughters taking their places as students and workers at these new research facilities? 

Let’s take this analysis a step further.

What did the Iraq War cost us?

What did we gain?

Did we cure any horrible diseases for our expenditure?

What could we have done with that money, instead of killing and maiming people and creating a mess that we’re still trying to end.

Maybe we could use some of that medical research money to find and isolate the gene that is responsible for unbridled greed and eliminate it. Maybe we could use some of that research money to establish a method to reverse the notion in society that ambition is directly tied to aggression.

But, I doubt we ever will.

There’s too much money to be made in killing and we’ll never convince people that there is just as much money to be made by concentrating on the living.

How in the hell would “they” be able to fake a moon landing?

It’s always all a conspiracy, until the truth comes out.

We all know a few. You know, those whacky conspiracy theorists and their “wild” ideas.

There are commies hiding EVERYWHERE!

Who REALLY killed JFK?

The moon landings never happened.

The 9/11 terrorist attacks on The Twin Towers were actually undertaken by the CIA and the government in order to pass new and repressive laws.

Bigfoot and Yeti walk the earth.

“Bigfoot is REAL….AND HE LIKES WHITE WOMEN!”

Bin Laden is still alive.

Lady Di (the Royal Broodmare) was murdered by the British Government.

UFO’s and other unexplained phenoms are REAL!

The list is endless.

Most of the time, spurred on by the corporate media, society tends to dismiss these truth-seekers as “nutjobs.” 

I have to admit, I don’t buy into every conspiracy theory out there, especially the far-fetched ones. But there usually is a bit of truth in even the most exotic of them.

We can’t just dismiss them as out of hand and need to closely examine each one before making our own judgements.

It’s a conspiracy theory, unless it’s a government-approved conspiracy theory used by them to delude us.

It’s called “questioning the world around you.” It’s called “not believing everything you’re told.”

It’s called “curiosity” and not being a herd follower.

It’s called “Questioning authority”.

In the 1970′s the “whacko” conspiracy theorists said the government was going to plant tracking devices on everyone.

They warned of the coming of a “1984-like” society where cameras would watch us in our homes.

If you had suggested that it would be the private sector doing it, and everyone would pay for the privilege you’d have been sent to the insane asylum.

How to get targeted ads on your TV? Try a camera in your set-top box.

A set-top box could push ads based on what it sees and hears in your home

Verizon has filed a patent for a DVR that can watch and listen to the goings-on in your living room.

But, hey….At least it’s mindless and harmless entertainment! Isn’t it?

In the application, the company proposes to use the technology to serve targeted ads appropriate to whatever you’re doing in the, uh, privacy of your own home—fighting, cuddling, or hanging out with your cats.

Verizon is far from the first company to think of this unassailably creepy use for a set-top box.

Comcast patented similar technology in 2008 for recommending content based on people it recognizes in the room; Google proposed yet another patent for Google TV that would use audio and video recorders to figure out how many people in a room are watching the current broadcast.

Targeted ads. Imagine having an ad for this book pop up on the TV screen the next time you sit down to watch Disney with your wife & kids? Imagine the world knowing about it?

Verizon filed for the application in May 2011, and it was just published last week. (By law, all patent applications are published after 18 months.)

In the document, which was first noticed by Fierce Cable, Verizon gives two examples of the context-sensitive DVR’s use in a couple’s living room: sounds of arguing prompt ads for marriage counseling, while sounds of “cuddling” prompts ads for contraceptives.

Even better: Targeted ads. Imagine having an ad for THIS pop up on the TV screen the next time you sit down to watch TV with your in-laws, wife & kids? It’s not illegal. You’re not doing anything wrong. So, why worry?

Just make it so that people who have it in their homes get a discount on their bill. People like to save money!

Just like how the Progressive Snapshot saves you money by recording your driving habits.

And, many people out there couldn’t care less about their privacy.

After awhile, such a device will become mandatory once the herd has gotten used to this yet another invasion of privacy.

Cops to Congress: We need logs of Americans’ text messages

State and local law enforcement groups want wireless providers to store detailed information about your SMS messages for at least two years — in case they’re needed for future criminal investigations.

AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, and other wireless providers would be required to record and store information about Americans’ private text messages for at least two years, according to a proposal that police have submitted to the U.S. Congress.

They’re bastardizing the Constitution and we’re letting them get away with it

CNET has learned a constellation of law enforcement groups has asked the U.S. Senate to require that wireless companies retain that information, warning that the lack of a current federal requirement “can hinder law enforcement investigations.”

They want an SMS retention requirement to be “considered” during congressional discussions over updating a 1986 privacy law for the cloud computing era — a move that could complicate debate over the measure and erode support for it among civil libertarians.

As the popularity of text messages has exploded in recent years, so has their use in criminal investigations and civil lawsuits. They have been introduced as evidence in armed robbery, cocaine distribution, and wire fraud prosecutions.

In one 2009 case in Michigan, wireless provider SkyTel turned over the contents of 626,638 SMS messages, a figure described by a federal judge as “staggering.”

Imagine THIS showing up at your house just because you sent a “joke” text message to someone? After they shoot your dog and terrorize your family, you’ll get a mumbled “Just be careful what you say next time, citizen.” LIKE IT? YOU WEREN’T DOING ANYTHING WRONG

While the SMS retention proposal opens a new front in Capitol Hill politicking over surveillance, the principle of mandatory data retention is hardly new.

The Justice Department has publicly called for new laws requiring Internet service providers to record data about their customers, and a House of Representatives panel approved such a requirement last summer.

“We would oppose any mandatory data retention mandate as part of ECPA reform,” says Christopher Calabrese, legislative counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union. That proposal is “a different kettle of fish — it doesn’t belong in this discussion,” he says.

An internal Justice Department document that the ACLU obtained through the Freedom of Information Act shows that, as of 2010, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint did not store the contents of text messages.

Verizon did for up to five days, a change from its earlier no logs at all position, and Virgin Mobile kept them for 90 days. The carriers generally kept metadata such as the phone numbers associated with the text for 90 days to 18 months; AT&T was an outlier, keeping it for as long as seven years, according to the chart.

A gun control halftime show

Sunday wasn’t a normal day in the NFL. It was two days after Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher shot and killed 22 year-old Kasandra Perkins, his girlfriend and the mother of his child, before killing himself outside the front door of the Chiefs’ practice facility.

“What’s the Constitution? Is that a play in the New England Patriots playbook?”

It was shocking. And it was expected that this tragedy would seep through into Sunday’s football coverage.

But many people were not expecting Bob Costas to make a plea for gun control.

During halftime of NBC’s “Sunday Night Football,” Costas blamed the nation’s gun culture for what happened between Belcher and his girlfriend, remarks that set off a heated debate about whether the sportscaster should have launched into what some called a “rant” on gun control.

Costas’ remarks seemed to send the Internet into an immediate feeding frenzy.  Was it appropriate for him to talk about a political issue during a sports show? What is the right forum for this kind of discussion? Was he only saying what everyone else was already thinking?

You either accept the ENTIRE document, or you come right out and reject it, and state your reasons for doing so.

Personally, I accept it.

ALL OF IT.

I don’t consider it to be “outdated” and think it’s the best guide that a large country can have. It’s not perfect, but then again, what is?  

I do, however, think that Wall Street and their corrupted and wholly-owned subsidiary in Washington DC has bastardized the interpretation of it to suit their desires, much to the detriment of “We, The People.”

It’s a conspiracy! Them commies are EVERYWHERE!

That “bastardization” and “corruption” is what we need to correct.

We need to take back our country from the moneychangers.
