Greetings and Solidarity to all members of the Resistance!
I find the result humiliating to me.
For it obliges me to renounce my allegiance to the Darwinian theory of the Ascent of Man from the Lower Animals; since it now seems plain to me that that theory ought to be vacated in favor of a new and truer one, the new and truer one to be named the Descent of Man from the Higher Animals.
I was aware that many men who have accumulated more millions of money than they can ever use have shown a rabid hunger for more, and have not scrupled to cheat the ignorant and the helpless out of their poor servings in order to partially appease that appetite.” – Mark Twain
Calico Blackie says:
Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) wrote those words in the 19th Century and they remain as true now as when he wrote them over 100 years ago.
What led me to this conclusion?
I thought about how we, the “little people” react to stresses and disorder in our lives. We don’t, as a whole, search for and demand solutions. No. Instead we tend to place blame within our class, searching for an easily denigrated scapegoat on which to blame the ills of our society.
Back during the Civil Rights Movement, I was growing up in a little enclave of redneck heaven in the San Francisco Bay Area called Alameda. I would have hated to be black and have had to grow up there.
As it was, I was a dark-skinned Polack (Attila came through Poland way back when) and was made to endure the taunts and jeers of my classmates in grammar school who reveled in calling me “darkey” and other choice names in the schoolyard. Why? I was bully-bait because I was different. I was a target of convenience and it made them feel great to think they were superior to someone.
You would think people would change as they grow older and get out in the world and begin to see the world beyond the schoolyard, but no.
Most of us never really change.
I can remember going to people’s houses during the Civil Rights Movement as a kid and hearing the old folks talk about black people and how everything was the fault of “them niggers.”
Never mind that racial discrimination was demeaning our society in its entirety.
Never mind that our government was sending thousands of our sons to die in Vietnam.
Never mind that the Military industrial complex was literally killing thousands of us with their greedy lust for bigger and bigger profits.
Never mind that thousands of “dirty hippies” had taken to the streets to protest our involvement in a war we couldn’t win because our hands were tied by the corporations who wanted the war to drag on as long as possible.
No. Never mind all that. It was all the fault of “them niggers.”
AND NOTHING HAS CHANGED.
Today, our society has embraced an era of political correctness that goes against our nature of being the “lowest animal.”
We never really emerged from the schoolyard bully mentality, only now, it isn’t “cool” to bully anymore.
It isn’t cool to hate an entire race or group of people simply because of the color of their skin, their sexual orientation, or their beliefs.
So, what do we do? We seek out entire groups of people that are “cool” to hate amongst our “group” in order to feel superior to somebody. It’s human nature to want to feel higher and more mighty than “the other guy” and our media knows this and provides us with every justification for doing so.
So…..Who do you hate?
We have surreptitiously, and sometimes openly been told by the media who to hate and who to blame for years, and we buy into it. We hate Moslems because we are told they are different than us. They’re violent. They’re rude. They have a different religion, and they’re weaker than us because they don’t have the one “true” God. They’re even more fun to hate because we’re told they all hate us too! We’re infidels that deserve to die.
We hate smokers because we are told they cost us more for healthcare, yet our government still allows the sale of tobacco.
Smokers stink. They’re rude. We have to breathe their smoke, and they’re weaker than us because they’re addicted to nicotine. We’re better than them. We’re superior!
We don’t pollute the air like they do. We’re normal.
We hate fat people because we are told they cost us more for healthcare, yet our government still allows the sale of Big Macs.
We have to sit in airplanes with them, and they’re weaker than us because they can’t seem to put down a fork.
We’re better than them. We’re superior! We’re NORMAL!
We even hate our elders because we are told they cost us more in healthcare and Social Security. They’re rude. They can’t drive. They’re senile. AND WE’RE TOLD THAT THEY GOT US ALL IN THIS MESS IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Why don’t they just die?
They’re perhaps the easiest target of all for our hate.
All of the groups I just described above are hated for one reason, and one reason only: We need a scapegoat and they’re easy and politically correct to complain about within our own little groups.
SOME HUMAN BEINGS LOVE TO HATE, and the media encourages this hatred in an effort to appease their 1% masters by keeping us divided. So, how far have YOU progressed since the days of the Civil Rights Movement when it was “cool” for white rednecks to blame “them niggers” for all their problems? Do you hate them “dirty hippies?” Them “smokers?” Those “old farts?” Them “Fatties?” Them “illegals?” Who do you hate? Take a good look at yourself.
While you’re at it, let’s take a look at the “Occupy” Movement.
Here’s an article from The New York Times:
Occupy Movement Regroups, Preparing for Its Next Phase
“The ragtag Occupy Wall Street encampments that sprang up in scores of cities last fall, thrusting “We are the 99 percent” into the vernacular, have largely been dismantled, with a new wave of crackdowns and evictions in the past week.
Since the violent clashes in Oakland, Calif., headlines about Occupy have dwindled, too.”
“But without question, the unfurling of sleeping bags by a few dozen people near Wall Street on Sept. 17 struck a national chord. “In three months, this movement succeeded in shifting political discourse more than labor had been able to accomplish with years of lobbying and electoral campaigns.”
Calico Blackie says:
What was disturbing wasn’t the article itself, but some of the comments I read on other websites regarding the content of the article. For instance:
“This one has the potential to involve a lot of out of work veterans (due to drawdowns) and be more fun when the cops move in to break the protests up. Vets get a hiring preference on the civil service exams.
Too bad they don’t have enough time to rotate through the police academy before shooting protesters.”
“Great. More stories in a couple of weeks of people crappin’ in the streets, rape, and open drug use.”
“YOU LOST. GO AWAY”
“We should get out there and throw ALL of these hippy kids in jail for their TREASONOUS actions against this fine country!!”
Calico Blackie says:
Do you see what the mainstream media has done? By using a negative spin on the Occupiers, they have turned a huge group of concerned citizens willing to stand up for their country and their rights into little more than what backward people used to call “them niggers.”
AND A LOT OF PEOPLE BOUGHT INTO IT.
Archie Bunker-types in our society see the occupiers as a gang of inferior beings that crap on police cars and live in the dirt like pigs. It’s easier for them to hate who they’re told to hate than it is to actually try to help solve the problems in our society. It’s the schoolyard mentality all over again. Maintain the status quo at all costs!
Meanwhile, our “Ghost of Christmas Future” is visiting the place where democracy was born. Have you been following this story?
‘Athens is in flames’: Rioters burn 45 buildings as Greek government backs cuts
One in five civil service jobs will be axed and minimum wage will be slashed by more than a fifth
Firefighters doused smoldering buildings and cleanup crews swept rubble from the streets of central Athens on Monday following a night of rioting during which lawmakers approved harsh new austerity measures demanded by bailout creditors to save the nation from bankruptcy.
“The stench of tear gas still hung in the air on Monday morning, choking passers-by. More than 120 people were hurt in the rioting. Authorities said 68 police needed medical care after being injured by gasoline bombs, rocks and other objects hurled at them, while at least 70 protesters were also hospitalized.”
“We are facing destruction. Our country, our home, has become ripe for burning, the center of Athens is in flames,” conservative lawmaker Costis Hatzidakis told parliament.”
“Sunday’s clashes erupted after more than 100,000 protesters marched to the parliament to rally against the drastic cuts, which will ax one in five civil service jobs and slash the minimum wage by more than a fifth.”
Calico Blackie says:
This is what happens when you try to get blood from a stone. If you try to punish the lower and working class as a whole, and wholesale steal/sellout their livelihoods and their democracy, to pay off the debts the upper class has accrued, expect resistance like this.
All this was done for foreign creditors. Bankers and corporations got off scot-free as hell, and the government is being replaced and practically handpicked by an outside private institution (in Italy as well, goodbye democracy) of “neutral technocrat” free market ideologues imposing the theft of austerity. AND the poor and middle class pays for the failures of the market and the state.
And if you’re one of those police trying to enforce the theft from the people, or one of the bankers initiating it, then you should expect that molotov as much as any normal thief would expect the police to come for a visit and toss them in jail.
Now, where will this violence in Greece lead?
Here’s one scenario – Greece implodes into civil war.
Turkey decides that this is a great time to shift the borders a bit, and gets into a tiff with remaining loyalist elements within Greece.
NATO (and the UN) try to play peacemaker while the guys in suits divide up whatever’s left of the country’s infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Iran completes its nuclear weapons program, prompting Israel to launch a coordinated attack on Iran.
Iran strikes back, forging a hasty alliance with Jordan, Egypt, and quiet backing from Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
Here in the US, members of congress (deeply indebted to both banking interests AND Israel lobbyists) push to get the United States to put troops into the Israeli war zone to help Israel fight their war….
but they’re hampered by the accelerating collapse of the Eurozone economy, which is spiking unemployment here in the states.
Homeland security and domestic police forces begin an unprecedented crackdown on political dissidents.
Or, I could be wrong. I sure hope so.
That is all.
Fight to eliminate the hate within yourself.
OCCUPY WALL STREET!
Do it for the love of your fellow human beings
