Hello to all of you out there!
We’re 70 miles (1.5 hours by car) away from the nearest traffic light out here and sometimes we’re a little bit slower to get news.
If you don’t have the internet, you’re stuck with mainstream media for your information regarding the outside world.
Those of us that do have the internet act as newscasters to those that can’t afford a computer.
In that vein…..Did you see this?
U.S. calls on Russia to respect peaceful protests
WASHINGTON — The United States called Friday on both Russian authorities and protesters to remain peaceful as opponents of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin prepared major weekend demonstrations against his rule.
Putin has angrily accused the United States of inciting the protests after Secretary of State Hillary Clinton raised concerns about the fairness of parliamentary elections that Putin’s party won but with a reduced majority.
State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said that the United States supported the right to peaceful protest in Russia as it does “anywhere in the world.”
“We expect that those demonstrations will remain peaceful on behalf of all parties, whether they’re the demonstrators or whether they are those keeping social order,” she said.
“So our expectation is that if there are protests, that they will be peaceful and that they will be allowed to proceed peacefully,” Nuland said.

Let that sink in for a moment….

WHAT BULLSHIT
Calico Blackie says:
No matter how you dress it up, or how Fox “news” spins it, we’re living in a hypocritical police state and we’ve got to do something about it.
Can you friggin believe it?
All lies and hypocrisy.
I swear, a politician or Wall Street banker would take your mother’s gold teeth with pliers while you were forced to watch.
When you’re working three jobs, getting about 5 hours sleep a night, shopping at used goods stores and helplessly watching your utility bills rise no matter how much you cut back, it’s hard to be ‘understanding’ over the wealthy, many of who were born into money and still are hungry for more (including yours).
Also in the news:
Union workers refuse to support Occupy port shutdown
Occupy Wall Street protesters want to shut down ports up and down the West Coast on Monday in a bid to gum up the engines of global commerce. Under the terms of the ILWU contract, West Coast longshoremen cannot simply walk off the job en masse to support the shutdown, though individual union members can choose to exercise their First Amendment rights and not show up at the hiring hall that day.
Calico Blackie says:
What you’re not seeing mentioned is the fact that the Longshoremen signed a contract with their employers that contains a no strike clause. If they were to walk off the job (wildcat strike) in solidarity with anyone, it would leave the union open to hundreds of lawsuits for contract violation. The workers are not refusing to support the shutdown. They can’t openly support the shutdown.
They, in effect, sold their balls.
But wait, there’s hope yet!
“Support of the shutdown among the rank-and-file may not be put to the test in some cities if sizeable protests erupt.”
“Under the terms of the longshoremen’s contract, union officials say blockades by protesters could result in the declaration of unsafe working conditions, which would exempt workers from having to show up.”

Republican Candidates Clash in Pivotal Iowa Debate
With the Iowa caucuses looming, six Republican presidential candidates clashed tonight over their conservative credentials and personal histories in a Des Moines debate that saw resurgent frontrunner Newt Gingrich battling attacks by his rivals from all sides.
And…..
From MSNBC
Gingrich opens up big leads in South Carolina and Florida
Newt Gingrich’s surge in the polls isn’t limited to just the early presidential-nominating contest of Iowa.
According to new NBC News-Marist polls, the former House speaker has now opened up commanding leads in South Carolina and Florida — two states that historically have played important roles in deciding the eventual Republican nominee.
Fueled by the support from conservatives and the Tea Party, Gingrich is ahead of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney by nearly 20 points in South Carolina.
The winner of that state’s primary has gone on to capture each GOP nomination since 1980.
Calico Blackie says:
But, enough of the bullshit.
Let’s talk reality.

Northeast states cut heating aid to poor
Mary Power is 92 and worried about surviving another frigid New England winter because deep cuts in federal home heating assistance benefits mean she probably can’t afford enough heating oil to stay warm.
She gets by on $11,148 a year in pension and Social Security benefits.
Her heating aid help this year will drop from $1,035 to $685.
With rising heating oil prices, it probably will cost her more than $3,000 for enough oil to keep warm unless she turns her thermostat down.
Her story continues with:
“I will just have to crawl into bed with the covers over me and stay there,” said Power, a widow who worked as a cashier and waitress until she was 80.”
“I will do what I have to do.”
Calico Blackie says:
Merry Christmas to Mary Power from the 1%!
The heating oil companies will make a huge profit this winter.

The cop with the pepper spray at UC Davis is Lt. John Pike of University of California Police. 530-752-3989
He should be fired and prosecuted for assault. Make an example of him to show our police around the country what can happen to them if they use brutality on citizens.
