The dark ages. Before we knew or cared about vaginas. Heidi Klum. Isn’t this why we fight? She wasn’t even born yet when I was reading Sgt. Rock!
I’m probably going to catch hell today from my feminist friends out there for this, but here goes…………
Back in the dark ages, I used to race my stingray bicycle down to the local corner store with my paltry bit of cash and happily turn it over to the clerk behind the counter every time a new Superman or Sgt. Rock comic book would come out.
They were my favorites.
My heroes.
Of course I knew I could never aspire to be Superman without any super-powers.
But Sgt. Rock…..
There was a MAN!
He was a WWII soldier fighting and killing the evil Germans so that we could all continue to live in America and eat our Wonder Bread.
He protected us.
Looks like fun, doesn’t it?
We never really gave any serious thought to the reality of combat and the pain and suffering that is associated with a war zone.
We wanted to be HEROES!
I also would secretly buy and read Archie Comics because I liked them, but I could never tell my friends about it.
Why?
Because all of my friends thought Archie Comics were limp-wristed girl comics.
Lord knows, I didn’t want the shame they would heap on me if they knew I was into the goings on at Riverdale High with Archie, Jughead, Reggie, Moose, and Betty and Veronica.
Alas, no hero for me.
By the time I was approaching the right age to become a soldier, we had this little thing called the draft, and had seen our friend’s older brothers come home all fucked up from Vietnam.
We liked these and wondered if this was what it would be like when we grew up & went to high school!
They looked nothing like Sgt. Rock and there was no talk of heroes or glory.
The coup de grace came when the National Lampoon (back when it was still good) did a parody of Sgt. Rock comics called SGT. NICK PENIS, and we began to realize how ridiculous it all really was.
So…..
What else happened by the time I was approaching the right age to become a soldier?
Ah, Betty and Veronica!
Years later, I discovered we all were “secretly” buying Archie Comics while casting furtive glances down the store aisle, hoping we wouldn’t be seen by any of our friends, and thus be condemned to a lifetime of ridicule by our peers.
And……..
As we began to hit puberty, we began to notice Betty and Veronica more.
A LOT more.
“Hiya, BOYS!”
Then, when we would be at a friend’s house, and he would pull out his “sister’s” stash of Archies, the debate would begin.
Betty or Veronica?
Keep in mind this was back in the day when if anyone of us had said:
“Neither, but that Moose would sure be fun”, we would have had to leave town after a very severe and sound beating.
So, the debate would rage on endlessly and pointlessly.
It sure took our minds off of Sgt. Rock in a hurry!
It seemed important to us at the time, but we didn’t realize that Betty and Veronica pussy was every bit as much of a dream as Sgt. Rock’s myth of honor and glory in war.
Oh, we know it now.
Which is one of the reasons I was kind of disheartened when I read the news yesterday saying that women would now be officially allowed into combat.
It was being hailed as a victory for women and for feminism in general….
But was it?
Ah, youth. We didn’t consider this possibility either as young boys drooling over comic book women!
I wonder if there will be a “Betty and Veronica ruthlessly killing the godless Taliban” comic book coming out soon to encourage little girls to want to grow up to be killers?
To want to die for absolutely nothing.
How long before whether or not a woman chooses to go into combat won’t be an available option anymore?
True equality, with all the burrs and stickers?
What if they bring back the draft?
Do you want to see your own daughter staggering around a battlefield trying unsuccessfully to hold her own guts in after her belly has been ripped open by shrapnel?
IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT?
Then, there are those who honestly don’t know they’re really fighting to enrich the military industrial complex
Lost in all this is the fact that many people in the military went in because it was the only job they could find, and now they find themselves back here with PTSD, homeless and cast off by the very same people that created wars for profit.
Yeah.
It was a great victory for EQUALITY.
What bullshit.
It was a great victory for the people who will gleefully send young people to die so that they and their shareholders can have increased profits.
More combat soldiers=more arms and supplies=more money.
But, maybe it’s best to allow those women who actually want to kill to go into combat. Maybe they’ll get taken out of the gene pool.
Nobody is bullet-proof and it doesn’t always happen to “the other person”
I’m not talking about the ones who honestly have bought into the lie that all these little undeclared wars are fought for our freedom and want to defend the country.
You know…..
The ones who actually see themselves as fighting for us against the evil empires and their armies of darkness……
I’m talking about the ones who think they’d enjoy shooting other human beings.
It shakes us up a bit when we realize that there are also women out there might have these desires too.
Then again……
Aw Hell, maybe I’m just too damn old and have outlived my time and my ideas need to be laid to rest and forgotten.
Since I’m discussing armies of darkness and things worth fighting against, here’s a good one:
NYPD Commissioner says department will begin testing a new high-tech device that scans for concealed weapons
Probable cause? “Oh well. The machine must have given a false reading. Too bad about that joint and gram we planted in your pocket, BOY!”
The device, which tests for terahertz radiation, is small enough to be placed in a police vehicle or stationed at a street corner where gunplay is common
The NYPD will soon deploy new technology allowing police to detect guns carried by criminals without using the typical pat-down procedure. Police said Wednesday.
The department just received a machine that reads terahertz — the natural energy emitted by people and inanimate objects — and allows police to view concealed weapons from a distance.
“If something is obstructing the flow of that radiation, for example a weapon, the device will highlight that object,” Kelly said.
A video image aired at a Police Foundation breakfast Wednesday showed an officer, clad in a New York Jets jersey and jeans, with the shape of a hidden gun clearly visible under his clothing when viewed through the device.

The “armies of darkness” have deployed yet another weapon to use against it’s own citizenry.
Why aren’t we clamoring against this outrage?
Call me paranoid if that makes you feel smug and superior to me, but who’s really being paranoid here?

Feinstein revives assault-weapons ban
“You mean Feinstein wants to ban assault weapons and hi-cap magazines?”
California Democrat Dianne Feinstein begins her fourth full term as a U.S. senator much as she started her Senate career: fighting for a ban on assault weapons.
Feinstein’s new bill introduced Thursday proposes to:
Ban the sale, transfer, importation or manufacturing of about 150 named firearms, plus certain rifles, handguns and shotguns fitted for detachable magazines and having at least one military characteristic.
Strengthen the 1994 ban by moving from a two- to a one-characteristic test to determine what constitutes an assault weapon.
Ban firearms with “thumbhole stocks” and “bullet buttons.”
Ban the importation of assault weapons and large-capacity magazines.
Ban high-capacity ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.
The bill would grandfather in weapons legally owned on the day of enactment and exempts over 900 specific weapons “used for hunting or sporting purposes.”

How come no-one seems to remember that the biggest massacres of women and children in our history by people armed with “assault weapons” were done at My-Lai…..
and Waco Texas….
and on the banks of the Washita River…..
and at Kent State…….
and at Wounded Knee?
WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE?
Why were we alright with the massive air-raids which killed thousands of women and children during WWII in towns such as Tokyo, Berlin, Hamburg and Kobe?
We were fighting for mom & apple pie!
Oh yeah, we had to do that to stop the enemy.
They sure as hell would have done the same thing to us.
Besides, it was “over there” and we didn’t have to see, smell, and clean up the body fragments and burned crispy guts of our own women and children.
How about the civilian deaths when we bombed Hanoi in 1968? Those deaths were strictly for profit.
OK, ladies…..
Personally, I’ve always thought you had to be a bit crazy to actually want to kill your fellow human beings for almost any reason.
But…….
Why not join the fight to make it better right here?
If you’re determined to fight against the armies of darkness, you’ better make damned sure you know who your real enemies are.
Please take a moment to think about it before you sign on the dotted line and find yourself in the center of a hot firefight where political correctness and feminism doesn’t mean a god-damned thing.
Take a minute to think about it.
If only the National Lampoon could create a parody entitled: SGT. VERONICA VAGINA to show you how senseless and ridiculous it all really is.
Take a minute to think about seeing your buddies squashed flat by tank treads or blown into pulp by an IED. WHAT WOULD IT DO TO YOU?
Think about the reality of a lifetime of post traumatic stress syndrome or a life as an amputee.
No matter what propaganda we’ve been fed, fighting in war and combat is not a “right.”
It’s hell on earth.
