We’re still holding on out here in middle of nowhere, but we don’t know for how much longer.

Scraping the rent together when everything else is so costly gets harder every day.

The prices for everything have gone through the roof, just so that the corporations can show and ever-increasing maximum profit and their CEO’s can get their fat bonuses.

Food, auto insurance, gas, utilities and everything else takes its toll. Never mind the luxuries. They’re almost all gone.

No cable or satellite or anything new or extra, except the internet. That’s the one thing I will hang on to until I’m living in a tent by the river.

Yet, there’s still jackasses out there that would begrudge me even that. Screw ‘em. When and if peaceful change or a revolution ever comes, there will be scores to settle.

Someone posted this on Facebook today and asked people to sign the petition:

So, what was the reaction of the sleeping jackasses on facebook?

This comment led off the idiot-fest:

“I’ll sign when they bring forward a Mortgage Forgiveness Act…or a Car Payment Forgiveness Act. We all make financial choices in our lives-it’s our responsibility to follow through with those decisions.”

And it all went downhill from there. “It’s all about personal responsibility” was the theme. No-one bothered to think their responses through.

Say "personal responsibility" one more time!

No-one mentioned the cost of a college education these days.

No-one mentioned that only the rich can afford to get a college education in this country without mortgaging their future and becoming indentured to the bankers.

No-one mentioned that you need a college education these days to get almost any type of job at all.

No-one mentioned that maybe many of us might not have the scholastic aptitude to become engineers or some other “useful” (to the 1%) field, yet we’re still told to get our degrees.

No-one mentioned that in order for CULTURE to survive, we need artists, musicians, poets, astronomers, thinkers, and dissenters who march to a different drummer. Imagine if Carl Sagan had “majored in something useful” such as manufacturing engineering?

Can't afford college? Your job is now in CHINA

No-one mentioned that all the jobs traditionally held by non-college graduates in this country have been offshored to China and the 3rd world.

No-one mentioned the fact that the bank bailouts cost more than the entire student loan debt in this country.

No-one mentioned that we live in a country where the banks and corporations are too big to fail, while we, the people have become too little to matter.

No-one mentioned the fact that if you keep a large enough segment of the population dissatisfied with their lot for long enough, there will be blood.

How long do these fools think they can keep screwing the masses and the young?

Nope.

We live in the greatest country in the world!

MY ASS.

I would agree that we are all personally responsible for our actions and our decisions, but what is your first reaction when you realize you’ve been suckered?

“I was ROBBED.”

Those facebook idiots were all over the personal responsibility aspect of it.

Your retirement cake. YOUR LEGACY and you don't even care

Ask any of them about it and you will find most of them to be retirees who now live in a dream world of “I was responsible.”

“I made the right decisions. I was smarter than you.”

“I was useful to my employers and society.”

The key word is WAS.

You were useful.

Now, you’re just a waste of the earths valuable resources, sitting at home on your retired butt letting Rush and Hannity do your thinking for you.

How much longer do you think we can screw our young people by having these types of “I got mine” and “personal responsibility” attitudes before the elderly are seen as a liability instead of a knowledgeable asset?

Well, retirees...You can be useful again!

How much longer before YOUR retirement savings, pensions and social security are taken away because it’s seen as a waste of money that could be better spent on the young and useful members of society?

How much longer before the 1% begins to play on this resentment and pits the young against the old?

It’s already happening.

That’s why we MUST all work together to fight the 1% for all of our futures.

Young and old. Black and white. Male and female. ALL OF US. TURN OFF YOUR TV, UNITE AND FIGHT!

It’s time to take back our country for ALL of us.

Anyway….Here in rural America, life is very hard. How is it in the big cities, I wonder? I was reading accounts from the Great Depression yesterday and came across this. It sounds exactly like life in rural America today:

What Would Jefferson Do?

Greetings to all who love Human Rights and are willing to fight the good fight!

Sign seen at Occupy Chicago. Why do you think our government and Wall Street has such a problem with this?

Yeah.

Thomas Jefferson would be getting pepper sprayed right now while Fox “news” was saying “that dirty hippie should just move to China if he doesn’t like it here.”

I originally started this website/blog with the intention of using it as a voice to call attention to the plight of the homeless in America.

Then, the “occupy” protests started and I realized that many of the “occupiers” demands and goals were directly tied to the homeless issue.

Foreclosures.

Greed to the point of being detrimental to our freedom.

Wall Street putting maximum profit before humanity.

OWS is against the poverty that is threatening to crush all of us, and they’re working for solutions.

Why do you think our government, the willfully ignorant, and Wall Street have such a problem with this?

I also saw that the OWS detractors chanted the same tired mantra that I had heard in comments from people when I became active with the issue of homelessness.

You can tell me “Oh those people made bad choices in life, so they deserve what they get.”

And while it’s true that many did make bad choices, we can’t take away the fact that they are still human beings and do deserve a better life.

We live in America, and yet a good portion of our population are still living in poverty and/or homeless.

I find it shameful.

“They made poor choices in life” “I made it and so could they” “They just want handouts” “Those bums should get a job”

Now, if you try to demonstrate for the common good of humanity in this country, you get beaten, pepper sprayed and arrested for caring enough to do something about it.

You get called a “dirty hippie,” or much worse.

That is also shameful.

The Los Angeles County Cemetery in Boyle Heights exists for those who die disconnected from family and society, and once a year, their remains are buried — but perhaps more importantly, their lives are commemorated.

The county becomes their family and performs a dignified burial.

The end of the line

“Their stories need to be honored,” said Rev. Chris Ponnet, of St. Camillus Center for Spiritual Care, where many of the individuals being buried had lived their final hours.

The cremated remains of 1,639 persons were put in a common grave Wednesday.

All died out of touch with their families.

  “These are the faceless, nameless people that probably you see all the time, with their shopping carts and black bags, who end up in our emergency rooms,” said Health Services Chaplain Rambhoru Brinkman.

Erased memories. Erased lives

Somebody once loved them, and they loved someone.

They had feelings.

I guess that many of the “get a job” crowd will never care about that unless they find themselves with their backs against the wall.

Until then, it’s easier for them to ignore the homeless while they sit on their big fat asses and watch Fox “news” cast aspersions on the OWS Movement for fighting for all of us.

About a half dozen Occupy protesters were arrested and later released during the evening, but police eventually pulled back after demonstrators refused to leave the plaza. The group greeted the police retreat with cheers and chants of “our park” and “cops are the 99 percent.”

More than 100 police officers, along with sheriff’s deputies, firefighters and public works crews, converged on the camp at the foot of Market Street early Wednesday and gave protesters five minutes to clear out.

The 70 were arrested on suspicion of illegal lodging and camping in a public park. Two were also arrested on suspicion of felony assault on a police officer after they threw a metal chair at him, hitting him on his face shield and causing minor injuries, Officer Albie Esparza said.

Why do I get the feeling that these same people would be fine with rounding the protesters AND the homeless all up and gassing us in concentration camps?

Maybe that’s the direction we’re headed in.

Occupy Denver: Shut Down Wal-Mart

It appears that the West Coast occupations won’t be the only ones stirring the pot on December 12′s Port Shutdown action.

In solidarity with the December 12 action, Occupy Denver called on “land-locked” occupations to disrupt Wal-Mart distribution centers.

Essentially ports of land, Wal-Mart distribution centers are the backbone of trucking goods to the thousands of Wal-Marts throughout the country.

They fought for our freedom. Let's honor them by continuing the fight

It’s Pearl Harbor Day in The United States.

This is the “Day that will live in infamy” as the day the US was sneak-attacked in Hawaii by the Japanese armed forces.

We’ve got to fight to preserve the freedom that those veterans fought for back then.

Don’t let them have died in vain.

There was another sneak attack “knock on the door in the middle of the night” early this morning.

This time, the attack on our freedom was in San Francisco.

Police this morning have dismantled the “Occupy SF” camp that was erected in October at Justin Herman Plaza along San Francisco’s Embarcadero, according to an Occupy SF member.

Ryan, who declined to give his last name, said riot police arrived around 2 a.m. and announced campers had five minutes to clear out of the plaza.

“That left no time to get personal objects,” he said.

How can Washoe County School District reach 1,800 homeless kids?

The dismissal bell rings. Students race to the doors, bound for home. The problem? In Washoe County, approximately one in 35 of those children doesn’t have a home.

With nearly one in two students in Washoe County’s schools coming from low-income families, a steadily emerging subpopulation of the district’s more than 62,000 students is homeless, having reached a high of more than 1,900 in the 2007-08 school year. The numbers have remained above 1,800 the past two school years.

“Sometimes, we have families that are chronically homeless, and they get to know the system pretty well; but there are families that have never had to access these resources, and so we have to really be out looking for those families,” said Rechelle Murillo, coordinator for the school district’s Children in Transition program.

“We have seen an increase of families that have never been homeless before,” Murillo said.

“They’ve lost homes due to foreclosures and have been displaced.”

This is NOT a political issue. It’s an issue of economics in this country and mental health of an individual. We will be seeing more of this as people are driven to madness by desperation.

BOTH political parties are equally guilty of the mess we’re in.

This womans actions, while deplorable, must be addressed. If you don’t have an understanding of how she could be driven to do such a thing, you have no appreciation or understanding for the bottom of the barrel despair and hopelessness this woman was experiencing. 

More and more people are experiencing this every day across the country.

Ruth Sherman, 88, told ABC News she was about to board a 3:30 p.m. Jet Blue flight to Florida after visiting her family for Thanksgiving when two female TSA officers ordered her into a private room.

The great-grandmother of seven has worn a colostomy bag since undergoing cancer surgery two years ago. She claims the agents noticed the bulge from the bag and that prompted the additional screening.

A big day of action throughout the USA is happening right now.  So what’s happening around the Nation? 

Scene in New York this morning

Well, what is happening is the 1% and their armies of darkness are at it again. This is really a national disgrace.

From New York:

Hundreds of protesters from Zuccotti Park clashed with the police as they tried to reach the New York Stock Exchange Thursday morning, and at least dozen were arrested.

… The demonstration came two days after the police cleared Zuccotti Park, where protesters had been camped out for about two months and that been the birthplace of the Occupy Wall Street movement.

From Dallas:

“They have completely destroyed all structures and personal belongings and putting them in the garbage truck.”

From the San Francisco Bay Area:

Berkeley: Authorities early Thursday morning cleared an encampment set up by Occupy protesters on the campus of the University of California, Berkeley. Police in riot gear conducted a raid on the encampment around 3:30 a.m. Thursday, removing about 20 tents and arresting two protesters. Television footage showed a bulldozer moving into the area after the raid.

More than 100 officers and sheriff’s deputies from three agencies, including campus police, surrounded the 40 or so campers and gave them 10 minutes to gather their belongings and leave.

San Francisco:  San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee met with Occupy SF protesters at City Hall Wednesday to discuss his continued concerns about the encampment that has been at Justin Herman Plaza for the past several weeks.

Lee, who made his first visit to the encampment on Tuesday morning, has expressed concern about health and safety conditions at the camp, which has increased to about 200 tents in the plaza at the foot of Market Street.

Police in Seattle pepper sprayed peaceful protesters for standing up for their rights. 

Among the victims of the assault were a priest, a pregnant woman, and an 84-year-old woman. This is exactly the type of thing we are fighting against. A peaceful woman denied her constitutional rights and pepper sprayed by the agents and thugs of the 1%.

What’s their next tactic?  Tear gassing people in wheelchairs? Oh wait…they’ve already done it.

If the 1% thinks these type of tactics will scare us, they are wrong.  They only strengthen our resolve. 

We will never go away, even in the face of this type of brutality.

You can beat us, pepper spray us, club us, and even shoot us and we will come back stronger than ever.

If you ever watched a movie such as Schindlers List, or read about Nazi concentration camps and thought: “How can anyone do something like this to their fellow human beings,” remember the picture of that 84 year old woman who got pepper sprayed by the Seattle cops and harden your heart. 

This is what we’re facing. 

This is what we must stamp out forever.  The Seattle police wouldn’t have cared if that lady died.  They could operate the camps and run the ovens.  They would do the same thing to their mothers.

But some small business owners in downtown say they don’t want the chamber and the business groups speaking on their behalf.

“They haven’t come and asked me how I feel,” she added, referring to the chamber and the business associations. “In the seven years that I have been here, they have never once approached me — because I’m not a chain. I’m not a big-box store.”

For those of you still hooked on Fox “news” and the rest of the Goebbels/Wall St propaganda machine, let me explain further why We the People have taken to the streets and airwaves:

The concept of America is simple – No Kings.

Hell, congress was afraid of giving the President too much power because they were so fearful of authoritarian rule (little did they know that in 200 years, the position would be mostly used as a shill for business interests…)

Unfortunately we have Kings these days.

They have an iron grip on the economy through their massive corporations. Probably, corporations shouldn’t be allowed to get as big as they currently are to prevent them from accumulating too much influence on economic policy, but the way things are right now, whomever controls the economy controls the country.

CAST YOUR VOTE, CITIZEN & MOVE ALONG!

It sure isn’t our elective representatives… so it’s sure not us.

It’s other people, who theoretically have the same voting rights as we do – except of course they have the say, and we don’t. 

So………….

Yo!…..Goal in mind…….

When the tea party started out they had a coherent message.

Within months however they had degenerated into a collection of hard right wing fringe nutbags shilling for religious fundamentalism, anti immigration and anti federal government.

Their original message (Constitution, smaller government, more freedoms) was completely subverted and lost.

This is why Occupy should be understood as an anti-corruption movement, not really an anti-capitalist movement. The current US (and global) political economic system is ethically and morally bankrupt, and the fat cats are making a killing because of it.

Wall Street says: MINE. ALL MINE! WE PAID YOUR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES TO MAKE IT LEGAL FOR US TO STEAL IT FAIR AND SQUARE FROM YOU!

I think the government and Wall Street is directing the media to continue to portray this group as dirty smelly losers, without realizing how many of us are watching this in growing disgust at their methods of trying to discredit the movement.

So basically, Wall Street and their wholly owned subsidiary in DC are nothing more than propagandists intent on keeping the little man down while supporting big business over the 99%.

But hey, vote democratic so we can have bigger government?

Or vote GOP so business can bribe a better kind of politician?

Hell, I don’t know. There is no member of any party in office I trust enough to leave alone with my kid’s piggy bank for 5 minutes, let alone run the country.

Change has to start somewhere.

Hey Wall Street....WE'RE COMING FOR YOU!

For anybody trying to dismiss OWS as a small bunch of nobodies, there are a couple of examples to consider.

During the American Revolution, many of the people living in the colonies did not support breaking away from England.

Also, during the Civil Rights era, the number of protesters was not always huge.

 

 

A small dedicated group can affect change.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.“

Getting warm enough for you yet, Wall Street Robber Barons?

This thing is spreading – the movement is spreading.

And the actions of the police are creating a nasty backlash against Wall Street and any authoritarians who try to stomp on the protests.

We haven’t reached critical mass yet…but we’re heading in that direction.

I hope one day someone is going to look back on these days say this era is the point in history when it started the change in American politics.

OWS needs to seize the moment and channel all this energy into transforming this global system that is destroying our ability to self govern through corporate influence of politics, decimating our Constitutional rights, looting the public treasuries, and preying on the world’s most vulnerable people.

Never forget….It’s the 2nd amendment that protects our right to the 1st amendment.

NO WHITE BUFFALO FOR YOU, TED NUGENT

Good Morning!

Americans have always had a love/hate relationship with their celebrities. I tend to listen to what they say with a grain of salt, whether it be from Michael Moore, or from Charlton Heston.

First, allow me to say that I am a conservative leaning 56 year old that likes to draw my own conclusions from both sides of the coin.

The other day, I was perusing the comments regarding the “Occupy” protests being made by the news and from other celebrities that have clearly lost touch with their roots and reality, and came across this from one of my early “guitar heroes.” 

I somehow felt betrayed that someone I once looked up to could be so stupid, uninformed, and out of touch.

Ted Nugent.

Heck, he looks like Charlie Manson!

Nugent referred to the protesters as idiots, stooges and softheaded numskulls all before you could get 50 words deep into his talk.

Really Ted? Name calling? That’s the best you got?  But that’s the story – that’s the mantra. marginalize the movement, lie and distort the reality and keep the protest off the front pages.

Ted went on calling Occupy Wall Street “nothing more than anti-American socialism on parade” the 62-year old, known for his conservative views, went on to write:

Ted……How can fixing the political system, cleaning up the Fed, taking the loopholes that corporations have exploited out of the system and making banks and government more accountable for the actions be anti American?

You must have skipped history class when they talked about our founding fathers. The movement is also about treating your fellow human with respect and decency. It isn’t about taking money from the rich, giving anyone a free lunch or socialism. Some people are too blind to see the truth about how the governments, banks and corporations are destroying and enslaving mankind.

This is why “Occupy” should be understood as an anti-corruption movement, not really an anti-capitalist movement. The current US (and global) political economic system is ethically, morally bankrupt, and they’re making a killing because of it.

Heck Ted, we’re patriots working to improve the system. What are you doing other than sitting on your ass at your ranch and once in awhile going out and killing something?  Is that your version of “Nugent Viagra”?

We just want an opportunity to live our lives without being raped by the maximum profit mentality of the bankers and their wholly-owned subsidiary in Washington, DC.

Ted, I used to listen to you. I cheered you in concert 30 years ago, and I cheered for you when I watched you on the television with Anthony Bourdain.

You brought up some good points on No Reservations.

But, now I can see that yours is a distorted reality that has been skewed by too many years of always having it your way. You’re just a spoiled little brat coward.

While you were living the dream, I was working in a factory. You can’t possibly believe that the “occupy” protests have no merit.  We’ve got to win some concessions from Wall Street, or the next movement will probably not be as non-violent. Tell me I’m wrong Ted. Say it ain’t so.
