The United States Government is again attempting to control and censor the internet. The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act has just recently passed the house.
This bill would allow major internet entities such as Facebook, Twitter, and Google to voluntarily share your personal information with the U.S. Government. This will not only affect users in the United States, but also anyone with an account with these companies.
This upcoming Monday, April the 22nd, we invite you to join Anonymous in an internet blackout. We encourage all web developers and website owners to go dark on this date. Display a message as to why you are going dark, and encourage others to do the same.
We hope, just like the successful protest over the Stop Online Piracy Act, we can encourage the senate to stop this bill.

I have to wonder how many common citizens were opposed to the French and Polish Resistance Movements inside Poland and France during World War Two?
After the war, NOBODY spoke out in support of the old and defeated regime, and EVERYBODY was a member of the Resistance.
But, remember…..
The “bread and butter” for the Gestapo and NKVD was a network of “informants” they carefully sought out and cultivated.
This would NEVER be us, would it?
They relied on snitches among the populace to do their dirty work for them, and made arrests and conducted the executions. They attempted to crush all forms of resistance.
Their extensive propaganda machine portrayed the resistors as “troublemakers” and “malcontents” who only made it harder for the rest of the population that were cowed into submission. Many people bought the line and found it easier to live under the yoke of oppression.
After all…..
Resistance would bring ruthless reprisals, which in turn only created further resistance.

The hacker collective launches #OpIsrael to provide information to Gazans who fear they will lose online access
Israel’s deadly military operation in Gaza, which began Wednesday, is striking not only in its intensity (the most intensive series of airstrikes since Operation Cast Lead in 2009) but also in its exposition over social media.
As our own Alex Halperin noted Wednesday, the IDF has been using Twitter and YouTube to communicate details about Operation Pillar of Defense and to send threats to Hamas.
A number of reports also claim that Israel plans to shut off the Internet in Gaza.
When it comes to cyber-warfare, however, the IDF’s foes are legion. Diffuse hacker collective Anonymous on Thursday announced #OpIsrael via Twitter in response to Israel’s threats. In a release posted on Pastebin, Anonymous wrote:
“For far to long, Anonymous has stood by with the rest of the world and watched in despair the barbaric, brutal and despicable treatment of the Palestinian people in the so called “Occupied Territories” by the Israel Defense Force.”
“Like so many around the globe, we have felt helpless in the face of such implacable evil. And today’s insane attack and threatened invasion of Gaza was more of the same.”

According to the Observer’s Beta Beat, “Anonymous has already begun defacing multiple pro-Israel websites, including Falcon-s.co.il and Advocate-israel.com.
They’ve also compiled an Anonymous Gaza Care Package, which contains basic safety and surveillance avoidance information, as well as instructions for how to jigger an internet connection if Israel takes down Gaza’s servers.
Another document posted to Pastebin outlines how to connect to dial-up in the event of an internet outage.”

Protesters disrupt UC regents meeting in SF
The Regents meeting.
Demonstrators shut down a street Thursday morning and interrupted a meeting of UC Regents at the UC Mission Bay campus over tuition demands.
At some point, a number of people in the room who were not necessarily students began shouting and disrupting the meeting. The regents were cleared from the room and the protesters were told to stop or they would be escorted out. They wouldn’t need the escort because they left on their own, but it wasn’t just inside where they were making noise, it was outside as well.
“We did not have a tuition increase this year. 45 percent of our students don’t pay any tuition at all, 45 percent,” said UC Business Operations Executive Vice President Nathan Brostrom. “So, if you’re a student from a family with a family income of less than $80,000, you do not pay tuition at the University of California. The average cost that a student pays is $4,400.”

In between protests and disruptions, the regents heard from the public most critical of the cost at UC campuses. Brostrom said there were actually not many students protesting at the meeting because many of them were on campus. He said many of the people may have been part of labor groups dealing with their own dispute with UC.

Hostess, maker of Twinkies and Ding Dongs, says closing business
Did it ever occur to you that those Hostess execs will STILL BE RICH after the closure and that they got that way by exploiting their workers and by picking the company clean for their own gain?
Hostess Brands, baker of iconic Twinkies cakes, said Friday it asked a court’s permission to shut down the entire company after a strike crippled its operations.
The move shuts down one of the nation’s oldest and largest producers of baked goods. Founded in 1930, it produces such well-known brands, aside from Twinkies, as Ding-Dongs, Ho Ho’s, Sno Balls and Donettes, not to mention Wonder bread, which the company says is the best-selling white bread in the United States.
In a statement, Hostess said its bakery operations have been suspended at all plants and that it would lay off most of its 18,500 workers to focus on selling its assets. It said it has filed a motion with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court seeking permission to close its business and sell its assets, including 33 bakeries and 565 distribution centers.
“It’s not our lust for maximum profit or our over-inflated salaries that broke the company. It’s those damned workers who wanted their fair share of the Twinkie that broke the company”
“The Board of Directors authorized the wind down of Hostess Brands to preserve and maximize the value of the estate after one of the company’s largest unions, the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union (BCTGM), initiated a nationwide strike that crippled the company’s ability to produce and deliver products at multiple facilities,” Hostess said in the statement.
On Nov. 12, Hostess permanently closed three plants because of the strike. Two days later, the company announced that it would be forced to liquidate if enough workers did not return to restore normal operations by 5 p.m. ET Thursday.
“We deeply regret the necessity of today’s decision, but we do not have the financial resources to weather an extended nationwide strike,” said Rayburn.

Among other things, a video has surfaced of a speech by Petraeus’ paramour in which she suggested the Libya attack was targeting a secret prison at the Benghazi consulate annex, raising unverified concerns about possible security leaks.
The affair came to light during an FBI investigation of “jealous” e-mails reportedly sent by Broadwell to a woman named Jill Kelley, a government source familiar with the investigation told CNN on Monday.
Although Kelley lives in Tampa, Florida, she’s known as a member of Washington’s social circuit, according to the government source. The source has not spoken to Kelley, but says friends describe her as feeling like she is an “innocent victim.”

“We’ve got to make sure that taxes don’t go up on middle-class families, that our economy remains strong, that we’re creating jobs. And that’s an agenda that Democrats and Republicans and independents, people all across the country share.”
The meeting comes after more than a week of positioning by Obama and the leading lawmakers, including House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

Keep all your outmoded technology – it may come in handy. If you live in a country likely to experience shut down of internet service providers at the behest of the government, keep in mind that tools like modems and even fax machines might be useful again.
You can use a modem to access the web via dial-up provided you have a working telephone line.
As in Egypt during the January 25 uprising, supporters can make available international numbers that you can dial into to avoid your local ISPs (since they will be shut down). You’ll also need an international dial in number, a working phone line, and bluetooth equipped cell phone and computer.
Stay tuned to the Telecomix activists’ network, which began providing disconnected people with dial up links to the WWW when Egypt lost its connection, and again in Libya a month later.

OH MY GOD! MILEY CYRUS. SHE WAS BUTT-NAKED UNDER THAT COAT!
So, why do we bother? Why shouldn’t we all just sit back watching in grim fascination while it all goes to hell around us?
Isn’t it easier to fantasize about what’s under that coat than it is to protest against our police state? Isn’t it easier to criticize Miley Cyrus for being nearly naked in public than it is to criticize our government for not giving a damn about us?
Isn't it easier and better to go with the flow and lead an empty and meaningless life?
Isn’t it easier to just “go along.”?
Yes, it is.
That’s why our fight is such a tough one.
People have been conditioned to take the path of least resistance.
To accept and comply.
To be happily distracted by the “bread and circuses” being offered to them.
It’s easier to be part of the MACHINE.
That’s why we so readily accept the distractions. We fantasize about our entertainers much in the same way we read National Geographic Magazine. We see great places, and we pretty much know what it would be like to be there, but we will probably never get the chance.
Stop waiting for it to get better. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT
Yet, we still dream, fantasize and visualize, knowing full well that by living in the dark, with the lights off, it wouldn’t matter if we were in London, England or in Hockaloogie, Louisiana.

You’re doing the same thing when you choose between political parties in the United States.
Capone opened soup kitchens and fed the poor, the whole while he was shamelessly exploiting them through his bootlegging, prostitution, and numbers rackets.
He even donated money to various charities around the Chicago area.
Today, he would be considered a Democrat.
He did a lot of good for the people!
With the exception of never opening up soup kitchens to feed the poor, and never donating to charity, Lucky Luciano did the same thing.
He had the bootlegging, numbers rackets and whorehouses under his control in New York.

Both crime families used their ill-gotten gains to operate a wide variety of “legitimate” businesses in a Depression-era version of “trickle down” economics.
Poor people had jobs working in those mob-controlled businesses as waiters, factory workers, truck drivers, and in other various forms of work.
The whole while, both Capone and Luciano were ruthlessly exploiting the people by selling them the drugs, booze, sex, and indeed the consumer items produced by the workers, thus taking back everything they had “given” the poor, and more.
We exist only to be fleeced by the 1%, and when convenient, slaughtered by the 1%
Capone and Luciano may be gone now, but The SAME EXACT THING is happening today.
Only this time, the organized crime families do not have Sicilian surnames.
They’re called Congress, The Supreme Court and Wall Street.
Wall Street is the ruling crime family and Congress, The Supreme Court and the White House constitutes their bought-off politicians, police commissioners and police forces.

When I was growing up we had heroes on the Television.
They fought for justice.
They fought against corruption.

When did we go from a society that valued truth and honor to a society that rewards greed and success at any price?

Where are our heroes today?
Although Zorro and The Lone Ranger were fictional characters of my youth, we all wanted to be like them.
So, where did we go wrong? We went, overnight it seems, from fighting for the “Truth, Justice, and The American Way” of Superman, to a media which started to glorify yuppies and greed as the “new” American Way.
And we bought it.
Why has honor taken a back seat to greed?
Why are we so upset about the revelation of secret government information exposing corruption instead of being livid about the corruption exposed by that information when it is finally brought to light?

Why are we so livid about a group of hackers who take down websites of organizations and governments that are dedicated to oppression, malice, and greed?
Are our priorities completely screwed up?
Is it not equally important to expose when our government commits unlawful acts?
Is it not equally important to expose Wall Street bankers for the greedy Nation-wreckers that they are? After all, the Wall Street banker, or big corporation CEO has no honor. They’ve corrupted justice and their only loyalty is to themselves and money.

Today, I need to call your attention to a different topic for a minute. That topic is animal abuse.
A friend sent me this picture and has been asking people to spread it far & wide in the hopes these idiots are brought to justice.
Whether or not the picture is a hoax, it isn’t funny and I leave for you to decide if you will take action. It isn’t easy to look at. Can you help identify the two people in the picture?
Personally, I hope that these two are identified, and after the authorities are through dealing with these cretins, I’m calling on ANONYMOUS to get their bank account information and donate all of their money to the ASPCA.
That being said, here’s a little education for people who still don’t understand what The Occupy Wall Street Movement is all about……………..

As OWS’s title suggest, it’s mostly economic reform. Mainly the reform of finance capitalism, but the movement is made up of whoever is in it so sometimes it’s environmental reform, or healthcare or labor disputes.
The general idea behind all the desired reforms is to live in a nation where profit and corporations don’t come before human needs and the ability to live reasonably and to filter out the economic inequality we have.
The reason the response is so varied for different causes and reforms is because America is a mess compared to most first world nations and people are vying for healthcare, homes, better working conditions that they know could be possible. And the movement is horizontal and inclusive so there are dozens of different philosophies and different solutions they want to try, etc.
I also see it as kind of a desire to reclaim the commons and a sense of community/public life.
We face off against the 1%'s hired thugs
But today we see the police are viciously attacking OWS demonstrators not just in the old south as in the days of the Civil Rights Movement, but from coast to coast.
As we have witnessed, given the choice between supporting the 99% of which they are actually a part, or slavishly kissing the asses of the exalted 1%, the nation’s cops have chosen their side.

Not funny if it happens to you
“Pfizer Inc. is recalling 1 million packets of birth control pills after uncovering a packaging error that could leave women with an inadequate dose of the hormone-based drugs and raise the risk that they will get pregnant accidentally.”
Pfizer found that some packets of the drugs had too many active tablets, while others had too few. Oral birth control products use a series of 21 drug tablets and 7 inactive sugar tablets to regulate the menstrual period while providing contraception. Pfizer issued a statement saying the problem is not related to safety but does raise the risk of unintended pregnancy.

“Mayor Byron Brown and Buffalo Police officials held a press conference Thursday morning at City Hall to discuss the eviction and arrests. SWAT Team members and Buffalo Police officers moved in on the Occupy Buffalo encampment at Niagara Square overnight.”
“The eviction came after the group’s permit to stay in the square expired at midnight. Crews moved in to dismantle the occupiers’ tents and other structures. The raid happened around 2:00am Thursday. Several protesters were arrested.”

What is ACTA? ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.
Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”

It must be tough, at times, to be a celebrity in this country, but most of us would like to try it at least once. Imagine your every move being under scrutiny and laid bare for all to see and snicker over, while you are left to deeply regret your moment of indiscretion.
We haven’t heard much from Hollywood regarding SOPA, NDAA, ACTA, or the Occupy Movement for good reason.
They’re afraid of alienating their fan-base which could also have a direct effect on their bank accounts. Most “stars” and “star athletes” are content to be like a significant portion of the population, and sit back waiting until they can determine which way the wind is blowing.
Also, they realize their opinions can have a significant impact on peoples lives (I don’t know why), and that a lot of crazies out there will use those words to either stalk the celebrity, or to commit crimes to impress a certain star. Remember Manson and the Beatles? Remember the guy who wanted to impress Jodie Foster?
But, not all of them will sit back. Some are not afraid to speak up and then accept the consequences of their actions.

Thomas a no-show at White House, releases statement
WASHINGTON — “Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas declined to attend the White House ceremony with President Barack Obama honoring the team for its 2011 Stanley Cup Championship. “I know you’re all wicked happy to be here,” President Obama greeted the Bruins.”
He knows how to stand up for himself
“But not all were there. The MVP was missing as President Obama praised his performance. A team spokesman said in an email statement that Thomas opted not to attend the event. Thomas later posted a statement”

Yes, Mitt Romney paid far less than the maximum tax rate on his millions.
But he’s not alone — 80% of Americans have an effective tax rate below 15%.
A big part of those deductions were charitable contributions.
The reason Romney’s rate is so low — despite having one of the highest incomes in the country — is because his income was derived almost entirely from capital gains and dividends from his extensive portfolio of investments.
And that form of investment income is typically taxed at just 15%, well below the 35% top tax rate for high earners.
Ask anything? OK Mitt. How much is a loaf of bread at the store? How much would you contribute to charity if it wasn't tax-deductible?
Another reason: He had extensive itemized deductions, which lowered his overall tax liability.
Romney and his wife, Ann, gave away more than $7 million over the past two years — or about 16% of their income. Of that, $4.1 million went to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to which they belong.

Another reason he didn’t pay so much in taxes is because he has extensive offshore holdings which are not subject to our tax laws.
But, CNN apparently forgot to mention that.
So, see what they’re saying? He is just like 80% of us in that he falls into the same tax bracket as most of us.
Bullshit. He’s filthy rich and protects his money from the American Government by using offshore accounts and “charitable” contributions.
Ultimately, he is as unAmerican as the 1% Wall Street banker that screws their country in the name of the dollar bill. Yet, people will still vote for him. Why? Because they think he’s less of a lying sack of shit than his main opponents are. It’s sad when those are your choices.

Judge Orders Defendant to Decrypt Laptop
Little by little, we're losing our freedom
A judge on Monday ordered a Colorado woman to decrypt her laptop computer so prosecutors can use the files against her in a criminal case.
The defendant, accused of bank fraud, had unsuccessfully argued that being forced to do so violates the Fifth Amendment’s protection against compelled self-incrimination.
“I conclude that the Fifth Amendment is not implicated by requiring production of the unencrypted contents of the Toshiba Satellite M305 laptop computer,” Colorado U.S. District Judge Robert Blackburn ruled Monday. The authorities seized the laptop from defendant Ramona Fricosu in 2010 with a court warrant while investigating financial fraud.
The case is being closely watched by civil rights groups, as the issue has never been squarely weighed in on by the Supreme Court.

This is definitely a Fifth Amendment issue. If, rather than being on an encrypted hard drive, her journals were written in a code (twin-language, say), should she be required by the government to translate it?
She should have the freedom to not assist in her prosecution, including not handing the DA the evidence against her.
Rest In Peace 5th Amendment, we haven’t known you for a while.
The 5th Amendment states:
“No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.”
But wait! If not “The Land of the Free,” at least it’s still “The Home of the Brave” and there are brave people fighting to preserve “Liberty and Justice for All .”

U.S. government online security website hacked
Hackers under the AntiSec banner appeared to have hacked the website ofonguardonline.gov , the U.S. federal government’s online security website, in protest against controversial legislation.
“In a message on the OnGuardOnline website and on Pastebin, the hackers threatened “a relentless war against the corporate internet”, destroying what it said would be “dozens upon dozens” of government and company websites, if the Stop Online Privacy Act (SOPA), Protect IP Act (PIPA) and Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) are passed.”
“The FTC confirmed Tuesday that OnGuardOnline.gov had been hacked and said it takes the malicious act seriously. “The site has been taken down and will be brought back up when we’re satisfied that any vulnerability has been addressed,” the FTC said in a statement.”
