Have we already hit the iceberg, or is there still time?
Another rainy day out here in the forested middle of nowhere. A good day to stoke the woodstove, make bean soup for tonight and write.
I’ve been watching and reading the news lately and this thought occurred to me:
Our society can be likened to a sinking ship.
Guess what?
There’s not enough room in the lifeboats for all of us.
There’s not enough lifeboats and we are in the process of arguing over who gets a place in the boats. Who’s “rights” are the most important? Who gets to be first into the lifeboat? All this infighting instead of banding together to fix the ship while there’s still time before we all drown.
If we work together for human rights, the rest falls into place
Women and Children first!
Women’s rights!
Animal rights!
Veterans Rights!
Workers rights!
Gay and Lesbian rights!
Minority rights!
All saying: ME FIRST!
The list of groups clamoring for their rights is endless.
Everyone wants their place in the boats while the ship sinks around them.
Screw everybody else.
WHATEVER HAPPENED TO WORKING TOGETHER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS?
They don't give a damn about you. Their place in the lifeboat is assured
Whenever I try to make this point to a conservative Republican, I’m accused of being a “dirty hippie” or worse, a “commie.”
Whenever I try to make this point to a liberal Democrat, I’m accused of being a “knuckle dragging moron” or worse, A “Nazi.”
Whatever happened to Abraham Lincoln’s concept of: “With malice toward none, with charity for all?”
With every separate group in this country screaming ME FIRST, it’s no wonder that we get exploited by the 1% and their wholly owned subsidiary in Washington, DC. We’ve become an Idiocracy.
Their place in the lifeboat is assured too
And it isn’t just America we’re talking about here.
It’s England, Germany, France, Russia and every “developed” nation in the world that is taking part in the idiot-fest.
We’ve become unwitting and ignorant tools and pawns on a sinking ship to nowhere.
This “me first” way of thinking serves only to divide us in our struggle and to splinter us into a hundred different and ineffective factions, thus playing directly into the hands of the “powers that be.”
We’re idiots! The 1% has no intention of giving us a place in their lifeboat, and they are deliberately steering the ship directly towards the iceberg.
Don't let us be divided and co-opted. UNITE BEHIND THE ORIGINAL PHILOSOPHY OF BREAKING THE GREED AND CORRUPTION CYCLE IN WALL STREET AND DC
You and me don’t get a place in the lifeboat.
That’s why we had better unite and work together to steer the ship before it hits the iceberg, or to fix the ship before it sinks.
Work together to fight for HUMAN rights.
WORK TOGETHER AND OCCUPY!
If we do this, the rest will fall into place like data sets in a well constructed research design.
The other day, on twitter, I saw a tweet from a group calling itself “The Womens Caucus of OWS.” Women’s caucus…..Let that sink in for a minute.
HERE'S WHAT I HAVE TO SAY TO YOUR GODDAMNED CAUCUS!
The very concept of a “caucus” within the Occupy Wall Street Movement is divisive and counterproductive.
It does nothing to help the cause of the 99%.
It sends the wrong message to the 1% and to the masses.
The media will paint us out to be nothing more than a bunch of militant twats who are only concerned for their rights.
Their place in the lifeboat.
We HAVE to stay united.
But, will we do this? Will we unite and work together for the common good?
Will we band together to fix the ship?
Or, instead of fighting for human rights, will we all just fight for our individual causes, and then try to beg a place in the lifeboats of the rich and famous?
Will we continue to play partisan politics in a game that is rigged against us from the get-go?

I support the CONSTITUTION….ALL OF IT!
But, I sure as hell don’t support “Nutcase Nugent” which is what the liberals will say about me.
I sure as hell don’t support “Big Brother Barbara Boxer” either, which is what the conservatives will say about me.
I support the CONSTITUTION. I support OUR RIGHTS – OUR HUMAN RIGHTS!
I support trying to help our fellow human beings feel a little better.
I occasionally give homeless people money. I don’t donate to charity because it makes me feel better.
I donate because it’s the right thing to do.
Every once in awhile I hear someone get all superior and say something like:
“I give them food, that way they wont spend it on liquor or drugs.”
To which I say:
“If they want to buy liquor or drugs screw it. Their life is shitty, let them do whatever they want to feel better if only for a little while.”
You hear it all the time:
This is how the self-righteous want to see poor people, AND they would say she shouldn't be wasting their food stamp money on hamburger and chairs. SUCH EXTRAVAGANCE!
It’s basically, “if you’re on any form of assistance what-so-ever, you aren’t ever allowed to feel joy or happiness”.
Why just liquor and drugs? Why not say:
“if the poor spend any money on a movie, or an x-box game” also?
Is it really about doing illegal stuff? Do they lose their benefits if they get a speeding ticket, a DUI, or any other conviction?
No.
It’s all about “if you’re poor, you suck and should suffer.”
Is it helping them get off the street? No, but neither is the Big Mac you bought them from the dollar menu, so don’t think you are helping them any more than I am, you self-righteous shit.
Somewhere, our priorities went astray
It’s about helping people feel better.
It’s about trying to get each other through hard times.
Why not try rehabilitation instead of scorn and conviction?
HUMAN RIGHTS.
LIFE, LIBERTY AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS.
Screw the lifeboats. Screw the “caucus.”
Forget partisan politics. It’s a trap.
UNITE AND FIX THE SHIP!
It’s all gone wrong and we’ve lost our way. Our “leaders” are pointing us toward the iceberg. RE-TAKE CONTROL.
Cast off their bullshit. See things in a different light. THERE ISN’T ENOUGH LIFEBOATS.

Re-take control
People are taking the piss out of you everyday. They butt into your life, take a cheap shot at you and then disappear.
They leer at you from tall buildings and make you feel small.
They make flippant comments from buses that imply you’re not sexy enough and that all the fun is happening somewhere else.
They are on TV making your girlfriend feel inadequate.
They have access to the most sophisticated technology the world has ever seen and they bully you with it. They are The Advertisers and they are laughing at you.
You, however, are forbidden to touch them. Trademarks, intellectual property rights and copyright law mean advertisers can say what they like wherever they like with total impunity.
Fuck that.
Any advert in a public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours.
It’s yours to take, re-arrange and re-use.
You can do whatever you like with it. Asking for permission is like asking to keep a rock someone just threw at your head.
You owe the companies nothing.
Less than nothing, you especially don’t owe them any courtesy. They owe you.
They have re-arranged the world to put themselves in front of you. They never asked for your permission, don’t even start asking for theirs.
